Blue Ox Base Plate for 2008 Lincoln MKX

I have just purchased a 2008 Lincoln MKX. Does anyone have this set up ? If so could you tell me where the pins to hook tow bars come out ? And finally where did you purchase ?

Stan - I don't know where the pins hook up. But can recommend SN Diegi Trailer Supply to both puchase, and install. Big Dave runs the shop area, and stays close on all work. Not the least expensive place to get work done, but I trust the advise and quality of their work. Have used them on our Bounder, CC, and CRV. Braking system, US Gear, Roadmaster base. They removed the US Gear from our Bounder, and moved into our CC.

Give them a visit, and see what you think.

Stan, I have the same toad with a Blue Ox baseplate, go to the Blue Ox website and select your car model and year, there have photos that show the front of the MKX with the baseplate installed. The removable pins go into the two black grill areas that are at the bottom of the nose. The are very attractive and are not noticeable when the pins are removed. I leave my pins on the hitch and when I am ready to go I simply insert the pins and twist to lock.
When towing the MKX the book tells you to place car in neutral, place the AC in recirculate and turn the ignition to accessory. This is incorrect on the model that have a push button ignition, Ford tells me to push the button and kill the engine and go. You would be best suited to install a 12V feed from your coach with a diode to charge your battery as the car uses a little power to keep the electronics powered when you tow it. I do not currently have the 12V feed on my car and have not had a problem, but I plan to add it over the winter.
The MKX is very easy to hook up and can be ready in less than 3 minutes, it pulls like a dream, hope you enjoy

I tow a 2012 Ford Explorer behind my 05 Inspire #51264. I have the keyless push button start. My owners manual also states to put the vehicle in neutral and the ignition in accessory. This does drain my battery.

When you state that, "Ford tells me to push the button and kill the engine and go", does this mean that you have been told by Ford NOT to put the ignition in accessory mode for towing. If this is the case, would you give me the Ford contact number you got this information from. I would like to know if Ford recommends this procedure for my Explorer as well. Thank you, Ron Jacobs

When I bought my car I had long discussions with my Ford dealer concerning the tow ability of the car. The dealer contacted the technical engineering department with Ford and over a span of a week researched and answered the questions. The reason that the manual instructs you to put the car in neutral is to allow the steering wheel to be unlocked, a requirement only found on cars with keys. Ford removed the lock from the steering wheel when they installed the keyless ignition therefore removing the nessecity to put the ignition inthe accessory position.
In either key position the battery will experience some level of drain which is why I intend to install the 12v charge line from the coach to cover the small loss .

Thank you for your response. Your information is most valuable to me. I suspected that Ford just did not update their towing instructions when they removed the steering wheel lock, I will stop putting the car in accessory.
