Change out a Headhunter toilet?

The accumulator tank, aka expansion tank, has crapped out. (sorry, I couldn't help myself).
I am told a new tank will cost $270 plus shipping, plus installation. I never have liked that set up and wonder if there is another option. I've often wondered why CCI went to this design. I suspect it's because of the horizontal distance between the toilet and the holding tank, but I don't know for sure.
My first though was that I could change the tank myself. Not so fast, Kimo Sabe. Superman installed the original tank. It is screwed in so tight that two of us virile males (dreaming again) using a 12 inch extension on the wrench handle, could not loosed it one iota. Unless some of you have a solution to that, I will have to seek professional (read "expensive") help.
So, now I'm wondering if there isn't a simpler installation I can retrofit in. After all, if we can put in a refrigerator that uses technology completely different that what CCI installed, why not a toilet? Any ideas?

BTW, what led me to conclude the tank had failed were two things:
1. It stopped flushing.
2. Water came out of the schrader valve when I tried to check the pressure on the air side.

I suppose you could flip the bath room layout, replace the black water tank and go with a gravity or electronic toilet. The Head Hunter tank is relatively cheap, wait to you have to replace the control solenoid. I asked at a CC rally in 05 whose idea it was to use the Head Hunter toilet. Because it was noisy and the system used too much water. Bob Lee raised his hand. I will say one thing in its favor, there are never sewer odors in the coach.

About a year ago I asked a service tech that I trust if anything could be done to replace the Headhunter. After some discussion, he concluded that it could be replaced with an electric macerating toilet from one of the usual RV toilet makers. He did say that he had never done it. We never got to price, because the toilet is about $1,000 by itself, and I was not ready to spend serious money to do it ( I guessed at $2,000 to $3,000 for the whole job). But it may be possible. Has anyone done it?

The headhunter is a good toilet and the water consumption is adjustable with an adjustment in the rear of the toilet. It the accumulator tank is a common item available at Home Depot, Lowe's etc. 30 to 40 bucks. Consider just replacing the accumulator tank .

Mikee- we agree - the Headhunter is worth repairing as it is a good toilet used in some very high end applications such as multimillion dollar yachts with excellent performance. We replaced the accumulator tank about 3 years ago (pretty easy job- completed in about an hour).

Much easier to replace the tank then do a full change out.

My old MICROPHOR is still alive and flushing... I have changed the seal on he flapper twice. Easy job...5 mins or so.
I never hear of many problems, if any, on the LFH.
