New Shocks recommendation

Yahoo Message Number: 85184
Hello to all, my 1998 Magna that we just bought, seems to have the original shocks. My friend and mechanic has it at his shop and told me they appear to be original. What brand would you recommend to be the best for this Magna? It does seem to lean a bit in corners as if the shocks are worn.
Many thanks in advance for the help.

I don't think "leaning" is caused by bad shocks. I think it's your travel mode leveling system.

Ray,

If you asking for the "best" I would recommend you look into the Road Kings. But they probably are the most pricey also. (Oops, did I say that!). Give them a call with your questions.

Perhaps the lean in turns is normal. Ours has always done that for 65,000 miles with the Koni adjustable shocks.
I understood the shocks job was to primarily limit repetitive bouncing and bounce height after crossing a bump at speed.

Our rig still only bounces once and rides really soft.

I'm not real up on Magna's of that era, but think they were on the Gillig chassis and sometimes had a Detroit engine?
On shocks, if they make them for your chassis, Road Kings would be a one time buy. We have the previous generation RK's, and they made a substantial difference in the feel and handling of our 40' Allure. The newer 3" model should be even better. We also added Super Steer Motion Control Units, which also helped on the quick 'setting' of the chassis on side to side sudden weight transfers.) The RK's and MCU's together changed the rides handling from Cadillac float to BMW... as far as feeling stable.
But what you seem to be describing could be more then just old shocks. Your friend should check for other wear points in the suspension, as ou may need new bushings, or other goodies to get the Gillig back up to snuff. As I understood it, the CC's on Gillig chassis were good handling coaches.
Good luck, and please let us know what you find out, and then go have some fun:)! Best,
Smitty
