Dr. Bob,

I just purchased the 2003 CO pilot navigation software and have used it only once so I am not yet in a position to present an informed opinion of how it works.
It was recommended to me and as I am was not prepared to take a year researching other systems I decided give it a try. It is run on a laptop PC and sits between driver and passenger, using the floor 110V outlet for power and with the GPS sensor sitting on the dash.
My first use of the system was flawed because I entered the wrong street number. The Co. pilot gave me specific instructions to the erroneous address. I was directed down roads I would not have chosen had I looked at the map but must say they were navigable with the coach but at a slow speed for safety. We viewed some interesting scenery along the way!
Our return home from Oregon is very straight forward and I have driven the route several times so the CO pilot will not be necessary.
When we are home I will set it up in the TOAD and see how it performs driving around a city I know well.
It may be several months and a number of trips before I can give a constructive report on the product. Maybe someone else who has had longer experience with the unit can give you their evaluation of the product.

I have used Co-Pilot for about six months. Overall life is better with it then without it. The one caution I would give to any user of such system is ALWAYS CHECK THE ROUTE AGAINST A MAP before you leave.

The real advantage of a GPS navigation systems is not that they can figure out a route, it's that they can provide you with useful, up to the moment information, as you go: like how far to the next turn, what road am I on, how far to my destination what time will I arrive, what does my route look like on the map and so on. The navigation system simply makes traveling much less stressful. I no longer have to constantly look at every road sign - if the CO-Pilot tells me my exit is in 13.6 miles I can relax for a while and enjoy the view.

I have, like a lot of male coach owners, a wonderful, intelligent, loving wife who won't drive the coach and can't navigate worth a dam.
My wife has two masters degrees, but is map challanged. The GPS Navigation system has done a lot to preserve my marriage.
I have used other mapping and navigation systems and use CO-Pilot for a number of reasons that make it my top pick, but I must admit that their user interface sucks. It is simply not intuitive. One would think that after all this time they would have cleaned up their act, but not to be. Another very good mapping program is Microsoft Map Point. I have and use both.
