Thanks George, again:)!

I thought the Echo charger was dependent on plug in power. Good to know that when the house is fully charged, the sun will then have a chance to also charge the chassis.
As we put in our new house batteries, we found an unknown to me inline fuse from the SP to the SP controller (tucked behind the controller). The first owner had two 110w SP's installed to maintain his batteries in storage. Very surprised that with the online fused found and replaced. That the SP's on sunny days maintains the batteries well. Even with light usage of the inverter on and laptops, phone, Wilson Sleek, two Fantastic Fans exhausting loads during about a 5-6 hour period. This with undersized 14ga feeds from SP's to controller.

I keep having fun as I learn things!

Best to all,
Smitty

I had the alternator checked and it needs replaced. They are quoting 1500 dollars. It is a 270 amp alternator. The other option is to send it in and have it rebuilt. The first question I have is can I have the alternator removed and then drive it back to the farm (about 10 miles) with the generator running and then plug into the 50 amp service until the alternator is rebuilt. Will this keep the batteries charged so we can live in it. Hate to empty the refrig and freezer. We live in the coach full time. The second question is what is opinion out there on rebuilding versus new?

Thanks for all your help.

I had my 200 amp alternator replaced with a rebuilt for under $400.

I think you may need to shop around before you spend your money.

Where are you located.

Dennis,

Search this site for the Delco Remy alternator. Much better product for much less money.

A quality shop can rebuild a solid core to equal or better than new.
