12R 22.5 Tire Suggestions

Yahoo Message Number: 87930
One of these days I will need to replace my drive and tag tires. I have 12r's on the read and 315 XZA2 Energy's on the front (fronts are only 2 years old). I was going to put XZA2E's on the rear also, but I checked with the Michelin dealer and they don't make those in 12R's. What model do people suggest for the rears? Or another brand?

I'm running XZE* 12R's on all 8 tires. The "*" is a bit extra sidewall thickness, which I felt on the rear with potential curb clipping would provide some extra insurance. These replaced the OEM Toyo tires, and ride very fine. Though I admit this is compared to about 8 year old Toyo's. Never had other big tires, so have nothing else to compare them to:)! Per actual weight at the axles, I could run 105PSI, but bumped that up to 110 for added margin,

Best of luck on your decision,
Smitty

Michelin recommends the XZE* in the 12 R size. It has studier side walls than the XZ@ highway tire they used to recommend. Continental makes a 12 R as do a few others. I had Toyos of course and the Michelin and it was a great tire until the side wall cracking issue in the XZ2. As they will fit I now run 12R Continentals all the way round, They are a touch noisier as they have a more aggressive tread similar to the Michelin in the 315 size.
