Alcoa makes a polish for their bare wheels and after you finish you can coat them. If use jeweler's polish that Brian uses when he details my coach at Emerald Desert RV Resort in Palm Desert California. It's not as heavy or as strenuous to use as the Alcoa but does 95% of the job. If you do it periodically it's not much of a chore, once before and after winterizing and then maybe a few times over the course of the travel season providing you stay out of fowl travel conditions. . If you let things slip you better have and electric driver with an appropriate polishing and buffing attachments and then it becomes a real P I T A.

"Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish" ... it gives a fantastic shine. Just do a small area at a time.

Just a quick question/comment. Does not the finish on the wheels of the specific coaches make a difference in what should be used for cleaning? Some are bare aluminum, so the polishes mentioned sounds like the right stuff to consider. Other wheels have a finish on them, and those I would think may not be good to used too heavy of a polish compound on.
I have a finish on our 04 wheels, and will be cleaning them up good after an upcoming trip to Alaska. So, will follow this thread to see if 'finished' wheels cleaners are different then bare.

Best to all, be safe, have fun,

Flitz is my favorite also. Of course, my wheels are not coated; just polished alum.
I use it on the wheels, all the chrome parts and the Coach Armor acrylic shield.

How can I tell if the wheels I have are coated, or just polished Aluminium.
I think they are just polished, but what do I need to look at to make that decision. dont want to make a mistake that costs more $$$$ Thanks

I know from experience that you do not use mothers or similar polishes on coated wheels. I am surprised that your coating has not started coming off the wheel.

Hi Dan,

You got me crossed up with some of the other posters. My point was the same as yours, that different wheel finishes, bare vs coated, require different cleaning and or polishes.
I have not cleaned mine other then simple washing, and then have used a coat of 'Nano Tech' waxes available.
Mine need a good cleaning, but I will wait until we return form an upcoming trip to Alaska before deciding what I will use.
Hope everyone else reading this thread, take a good look at their wheels. If in doubt of bare or finished, call and talk with the manufacturer stamped on that specific wheel, to help determine.
Pretty good chance, that most CC's from Allure on up wheels after 2003 (maybe before), do have a coated finish on their rims. Our coach does, and it was built in 2003. Not sure about Inspire and Tributes, as I'm not real up on them.
Best to all, and Dan - thanks again for making sure I was not damaging my wheels.

My 2006 Allure wheels were not coated. I would think by now you could see evidence of the coating coming off if you look closely. On vehicles that I had, the coating started to look shabby after about four or five years.
