Trip info request

We are currently in Cedar City, UT and thinking about a route to Ely, NV via 21 to 50. From Ely to Austin, NV and Battle Mountain, NV via 305 and then 95 and 78 to Burns, OR. Interested in any info regarding this route. Especially 305 to Battle Mountain, NV. Thanks in advance.

Well We make the drive from Austin, Ely to Cedar City every third year or so our my way from Reno to Durango, Colorado. Your going to learn Nevada is truly a mountain state as part of the rocky mountains. Make sure you leave with a full tank of fuel and water. The roads have been mostly repaved and on the flat and level between the mountain grades you can make good time. Coming into Austin is a real treat and you'll love the second gear approach. I haven't been on 305 in a long time but it was a good road then and I assume it is now. If you have time stop in Ely and visit the Railroad and its museum. 95 and 78 should be OK, but the last time I was on those roads was the second year we owned the 34' airstream TT in 88 . I now come into Burns from the east on 20, I believe, and then head west.

Lyle,

Nevada and Utah are very dry this year. Watch for wind on 50 from Utah into Nevada. Ron and I traveled through there in a dust storm a few years ago and ended up having to change the air filter in the coach. Have not been on 305 for years so no help there. You could just stay on 50 and come on into Fallon and go up 395 to Klamath Falls and then on to Burns.

Tom,

Thanks for the input. I'm hoping someone has some recent info on highway 305. We do plan to stay a night in Ely and then on to Austin and Battle Mountain the next day. Once in Burns we will plan which way to go next. We don't plan more than a day or two ahead.

Have you ever thought about taking your wife to the big Quilt show in Sisters Oregon the first or second Saturday in July? You will probably have to stay in Bend as every RV space will be sold. Usually Crown Villa has spaces if you'll call now. One time we drove over from Eugene as we couldn't get any closer.

Lyle,

Highway 305 from Austin, Nv to Battle Mountain is good 2 lane road. You'll have no problems there. As mentioned before, the last 5 miles of US 50 down into Austin is slow, twisty but I do it often in a 40' with toad. Just go slow.

A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don't have one, you'll never need one again.
