Entry door won't stay open

Yahoo Message Number: 89574
Our entry door will not stay open if there is more than a gentle breeze blowing. We were recently out with many other bust style rvs. All the other doors would stay open to let some fresh air in...ours kept shutting. Is there an adjustment or something? Thanks!

Sounds like the door stay is broken . . . . a common problem.
Look about half way up the hinge side for a flat metal bar going from door to frame . If is loose and jiggly it is broken and needs replacing. There are sources in this group were you can buy a replacement. Check the archives for information.

This is a repost of my message posted in 2010 about Door Checks. Russ has now made and sold over 700 of his door checks and has more in stock. Contact him for a good replacement door check.

Dear Group:

The Door Checks are still available from the designer, Russ Cederholm. He has sold 200 of these lifetime laser cut, 303 stainless steel door checks, and still has 100 remaining. He is spending his winter down in Florida (between Tampa and Orlando off of I-4), and can be reached at 414-254-9473 for the part, or possible installation, if you are close to him.

...

If you need a door check, because yours was broken or stretched by a wind gust catching the door of your coach, contact either of them.
They are a lot cheaper than replacing the whole door check mechanism at over $200.
Thank you Russ for designing, manufacturing and selling the part at a very reasonable price.

p.s. Door check discussion started around 09/21/2009, and there are some photos in the Photo Section.

OK, after much looking and searching...our coach does not have a door stay or door check as described. Evidently what we do have is a cable that runs from the top hinge/bar that swings the door open down through the door to the latch. It's more of an annoyance than anything else, so it's something that can wait until we have some time to look further into it.

Vickie you are correct about not having a door stay or door check on your Coach. The Magna's back then used a entry door that was manufactured by P.T.L Engineering and uses a cable system. In short the cable is attached to the door handle mechanism and runs up to the top of the door where the bi-fold bracket is. I replaced mine ('02 Magna) in 2011 as it was worn and wouldn't latch to hold the door open. Not a difficult job but follow the direction's as given by PTL. Called CC and they didn't stock the part and directed me to call PTL. Get the PTL number (mine was PTL CC 05) off the door and call them. Back then the part is sold as an "assembly only" and is part #001-456 a little over $150. PTL phone number is 810-664-2310 and speak with Jason ext 25. Great people to work with. They will fax or email the direction's and pictures along with complete breakdown of parts. Hope this helps you out.
