Dead battery on tow vehicle

We replaced our '95 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara for towing. At end of a 3 day trip battery on Wrangler had to be jump started. I had the key in accessory position as instructed by owners manual so I am sure all that fancy electronic stuff pulled the battery down. Never had this problem with my '95! Any suggestions? Each night I turned the key to the off position. Must be a better way.

We have an 09 Wrangler and our owners manual says to turn the key to either on or accessory to unlock the steering, however our Jeep does not lock the steering. I checked with Jeep and they agreed that I can remove the key from the ignition when towing. I have been doing just that for three years. I do not know if they went back to locking steering or not but it is worth checking into. My owners manual was wrong.

Thanks! After posting my msg I talked to my nephew who tows a Sahara and I am sure I can tow with the key in the totally off position with key removed. The steering onthe new one does not lock in the off position. I guess my mind was still set on how the old (wonderful) '95 worked!
