Generator Turns off

We have just left on our three month trip across country. I have had everything on this motorhome serviced. Today in Yuma/Phoenix temp 110. I start the generator the air comes on for about 30 minutes and then the generator turns off ???? I waited re-started the generator and only turned on zone 1 to 68 degrees with zone 23 off. The generator turned off in about 30 minutes. I have a full tank of fuel, new filters and the generator serviced three weeks ago.
Does anyone have any ideas

Had that happen couple years back - mine turned out to be fan belt broken - unit would run until temp. gets high then auto shutdown would turn it off. Check your fluid levels, if ok, check your belt.

Well then Stan, try it one more time and monitor the genset temp. If she climbs right up, you have you problem answer.

What brand, model of generator do you have?? On some Onan generators, the fan is direct drive with no belt. However, there is a belt for the water pump at the rear of the generator that is not the easiest to change. If an Onan, are you getting a primary code than reading the secondary??

What is the brand of your generator? Could be overheating, or, like my PowerTech, a bad temperature sensor. In any case, it is turning off because it thinks something is wrong, temperature, oil pressure, etc. Since it runs a few minutes, temperature or temp sensor seems most likely.

Hi Stan - Good to get the problems out of the way early in the trip!!!! (Sorry on a hot day, that this is happening.)
In addition to the belt. If the radiator fluid was changed at this service too, you could be a bit low on fluid. Adding fluids to these at change over, can sometimes result in air gaps, that then work their way out under longer running. Resulting in lower fluids.
If this is an Onan, you should be able to pull a code by the blinking lights. It is Heat Related (can't remember the code, but think it is 33), then it could be: The belt. - or - The air gap caused low fluid. - or - The dreaded Temp Sensor. (Do a search on my Onan Tem Sensor journey, and you will see what that means.)

Stan,

Check your supply and return fuel lines for cracks that would allow air into the sysyem. You can access the generator fuel lines in the bay directly under the passenger seat by removing the rear bay panel. That will allow you to inspect the fuel lines and connections at the tank. Next, you want to follow the lines all the way to the generator looking for any damage or cracks in the lines. The connecting points at the tank and generator should also be examined for any damage. If you have not replaced these rubber fuel lines I would recommend that you have it done, mine went bad several years back and caused a problem much like you describe.

Hi Stan - I'll add concurrence to the fuel lines and silverleaf settings. If your coach has the RC7-Remote Panel with AGS option, check it to make sure it is not set to 'Shut Off at 100% SOC', or a message like this. This happened to me once, as for some reason the tech's working on my coach had changed some of my RC7GS settings... (My first instinct was that I had a bad Temp Sensor, so was glad when I thought about checking over all of my RC7GS settings, in case I had blown something...)
I believe if you have a leaking fuel line, that you should be able to pull a code that indicates a fuel/filter type problem (Assuming this is an Onan.)

Had a similar problem on my 2005 Allure. Turned out to be an old fuel line that collapsed when the generator was demanding fuel.

When i flushed and replenished my gen coolant system, it fooled me into thinking it was full. After I ran the gen for a while, I saw the coolnat level drop which required a signifcant amount of additional coolant to get it back to full.

Friends,

First I would like to say I would never have another brand of coach other the a Country Coach. My Email outreach had not gone out for 10 minutes and I started having suggestions, all seemed to b very credible. Yesterday while approaching the Ship Rock area it was windy but not that bad, and then a rouge gust of wind moved the motorhome more than I have ever had it done. In addition we heard banging on the side of the coach. The gust of wind had ripped the slide awning, and the awning was acting like a sale, just pounding the side of the motorhome. I got outside, rather stupid, to try and do something but I could not walk into the wind. We are now in Farmington NM, where we have contacted George a mobile mechanic that has helped before.
Now, finally the generator ---- he checked and he had to pour in almost three quarrts before we couod get a reading. He is going to fix everything. I trust my hometown mechanic when he emailed me that it was checked last week before we left, therefore we have to find the leak.

Are you sure you weren't in Kansas when that wind picked up? Bummer on the awning, and very lucky no one was hurt from the whipping equipment. (I did help a gent with an Airstream Trailer once - broke his arm trying to save an awning while in camp - so can be a dangerous situation.)
I look forward to you closing he chapter on the generator. Hope the leak is found.
