Reinstalling Slide Awning

I took off one of our slide awnings (Carefree Summit) and had it repaired, now going to attempt to reinstall. Does anyone have any tips on how to put the tension back on the right side of the roller tube without breaking too many knuckles? My friend that helped me remove it ended up with a pretty good sized cut on his thumb>

Thanks, found that the other day, unfortunately it doesn't have any info of how to reload (and how much) and save knuckles.

Anyone else have any experience with the Carefree slide awnings?
