30 amp service

I will be visiting family soon and they were nice enough last year to install a 30 amp RV outlet for us. My previous coach had basement air (Winnebago) and we were OK with AC and running the new residential fridge we had installed.
The Allure has, of course, the EMS so would expect it to shed loads as needed. If necessary, will 30 amp run two AC's and my residential fridge? Or, should I expect to realistically be able to support only one AC? I have suggested to DW that we would not plan a visit during very hot weather unless we want to run the genset all the time and their neighbors may not like that idea.

Gary, I manage with all sorts of low amp supplies, but I can run both AC's and my Norcold on electric inside 30 amps on the EMS. If you have Aquahot and use the electric water heating that will shed, then the rear AC. I am on 30 amps at the moment and with 29c outside we use the AC later in the afternoon. I just have to think what I am doing.

We can only run 1 AC on 30 AMP service and residential refrigerator.

Each A/C draws around 12 Amp and the fridge around 4 Amp plus the compressor "kick" when it turns on. One thing you can do is change out the wire to the hookup with #10 3 wire and use the regular 50A socket. Then look at what appliances are on each leg and manage the load. We've done this at several "friends house" to be able to run 2 airs. Another thing we've done is buy some double 30 Amp breakers, (fits in one slot) and run extension cords to the coach (using a double 30 to 50 box. If you need more info on this, drop me an email. Using the single slot 30's introduces an issues that was discussed before on this forum.

OK. I would agree one AC should be OK as long as we don't visit in very hot weather. Where we park is full sun, no shade at all, and we have to leave two dogs in the coach while we are 'visiting.'

With my 06 Intrigue, sometimes my microwave wouldn't work but other than the AC's everything worked fine.

I use 30 amp service most of the time. You just have to be careful. i.e. I would turn the gen on when we need to cook in the oven. I would only use 1 a/c if at all. I need to be extra careful when the TV is on.

Never have I experienced any difficulties using 30 amp

No issues other than the obvious you stated and you might have to turn off AC if you are using the microwave.

Steve, I have been running 30 amp service for the last 7 weeks. The only issue was my wife was using the air conditioner and then turned on the microwave. System did what it was made to do. Shut down some the systems and then reset. We are in the Pacific NW so there is not much need for air conditioner, however, heater and rain coats are a must.

Another option is to use a "RV cheater box adapter" made by Campco (sold at pplmotorhomes.com for about $45).
It allows you to plug into a 30 amp and 15/20 amp simultaneously. In your case you probably have to run an extension cord for the 15 amp service. Neither service can be of the GFI type or it will not work.

I have never used one, but it looks like an interesting alternative.

I have used the "cheater" but not often because most power stations have GFCI protection.
