HWH System Dead

Yahoo Message Number: 92160
I am up near the Canadian border. Cold is coming. I tried to leave today, packed up tried to retract slides. There is no power to slide controls or HWH leveling control panel. There are lights on inside the HWH leveling computer box and at least the one slide box I can see. The light inside the HWH reset button comes on with the ignition switch which is not norma. I have checked every fuse and breaker I can find. All seem fine. Anyone have any ideas or every have this problem? This has never happened before. Cannot drive. Everything else is working. Is the 12v master switch by chance turned off? Ours is by the door. Made this mistake years ago?

There is a 15 amp inline fuse at the HWH pump that had blown. On my Magna it is difficult to see and I finally found it by reaching into the compartment and feeling for all the wires attached to the pump. Once I found it I was able to lift the wire up and see the fuse. For me it was a one handed job as I couldn't get both arms into the space.

Thank you all. This is collective response. The master 12 switch is on. The slide controls on the dash, in the bedroom as well as the HWH leveling panel are not only off, they are dead. No lights. On the what I assume you mean is the air leveling pump fuse, I have a question Pete, did this kill the power your leveling panel lights and your slide controls for some strange reason?

Check there is a ground on hydraulic pump in drivers boot. The ground is applied via a pressure switch that indicates that parking brake is set. You can Jump a ground to the pump and it will operate even if parking brake not set until replacement switch is available. I operated mine like that for a year.

If the HWH control panel (ours is located over the drivers seat) indicates "not in park/brake" you may have a bad pressure switch. We had the same problem because the pressure switch interlock was malfunctioning and thenHWH system did not think the emergency air brake was set. In our 2001 Affinity the switch is located in the front run box on a metal bulkhead near the front end of the coach. If I remember correctly it was the center of three similar switches in a row (check wire number with list of wire numbers). A tempory fix for us was to push the emergency brake switch in then then wait 5-10 seconds and pull it out. We would do this a half a dozen times and it worked for a while until we could replace the pressure switch.

Paul, I guess I am not being clear enough. There are no lights on the HWH control panel. It appears to have no power to it. Same with slide room controls. On this coach anyway, normally, turning on the ignition activates the lights on the HWH control panel. At the moment, no lights ignition on or off. The slide controls turn on with keys located independent of all else. They are dead as well. Emergency brake in or out, engine on or off this condition is the same. The coach went to travel mode when I started the engine (can only tell this since the coach came up because the "travel" light is of course dead as well. It would seem that there is no power to HWH control panel or slide rooms. Of course when things go awry, you push the HWH reset button. Nothing happens when I do this ignition off or on. In addition, the little light in the button is lit, but only with the ignition on. This is not normal In addition, the HWH leveling light on the dash is on when the engine is running meaning something is not right.

You might want to check to be sure the plug on the bottom of control panel is plugged. They are noted for coming loose.

Solid as a rock. It has a clip. Whatever is causing this, it supplies power not just to the control panel, but to the slide room controls as well since all are dead. To a knowledgeable expert that might home them in, but I have no idea what that might be. I normally work with the excellent Butch Waite who guides me and my multimeter since he knows every wire in this coach by heart, but I cannot reach him which is unusual. He may be sick or something. I will call HWH tomorrow and hopefully they will help. Nothing like this has ever happened to stop me from driving the coach since I got it 7 years ago other than a wet $2 starter fuse which Butch homed in on in 10 minutes. It has been utterly reliable in terms of being drivable at least.

Rich,

I know you in a ruff spot but bottom line there was a Great Message about Country Coach in your post

Good luck with it and take care,

This may be redundant, but I would press real hard to make sure the high current breakers are not tripped for your slide rooms at your house battery box.

To all: Called Joe at HWH and Kevin of CC tech support this morning. Both got back to me right away and both were fantastic. After hours in 20F temps with 30 mph wind with phone and multimeter in hand (bloody cold) testing voltages and taking things apart, we discovered a blown fuse in the HWH star wars like level/air control box in front run bay. Alas, there is a bad component in the control box (we don't know exactly why) and I was faced with either pulling it, sending it in to HWH and getting it back the end of next week with 2 day shipping time, etc., or manually retracting both slides, driving to AZ where I am bound for winter and doing the aforementioned there under better climate conditions. I have rare electric HWH front great room slide (so there is no pump) and the retract/winching instructions look very complicated and require major disassembly of slide mechanisms, removal of wood, etc. I could see potential problems with this job, so I sent the box in and will be hunting cold weather pheasant and doing indoor writing work for the next few weeks. If you get the slides in, the coach is drivable, but once the HWH box is out, not just no leveling, but no air to bags even when driving so here I am...
I could not have asked for better tech support from either CC or HWH. This required multiple phone calls, e-mails, etc. CC sent me schematics, etc. Chris Snyder helped as well. This was the rare kind of esoteric thing that only HWH and CC could really handle from afar and I am in a situation where there is no one in this state of Montana who could handle this, especially in the very remote small town I am in at present
While I wish this would not have happened, one dead in your tracks experience in 7 years in not bad at all.
You might be interested to hear that I learned today that CC is very close to going back into coach production! Of course, it will be Magna's at first.
