Alternator or ???????

Yahoo Message Number: 92621
Coach 12054 Intrigue 2006 with Cat 525.

On the road heading to Florida, pulled over to get some rest, went to start the generator and it would only turn over very slow and not start. Hit the boost switch with no change. Tried to start the engine and it would turn very slow. So now, generator and engine would not turn over. Checked the main breakers (red) above the inverter access panel pushed on all of them and found the breaker for the generator tripped and reset it. Pushed the boost switch tried to start the generator and it started. Still no engine. Checked the main inverter panel found RED fault & low battery lit. Hit reset red fault cleared, low battery did not. Checked main generator breaker on generator found tripped. Reset that. All is well with power to coach (110v) and battery low has cleared.
Question, what would cause everything to die?
Engine batteries are one year old.
Any help would be appreciated.
Joe

If you are mechanically inclined check your solenoid that controls power between your house batteries and your crank battery. This is a 200 amp solenoid. If the solenoid is bad it will prevent the alternator from charging the house batteries or both. If you are near a National Indoor RV facility they know all about it and all about Country Coach.

Thanks for you response John. Have all the tools in order to test. Where is the solenoid located?

In the battery compartment it is mounted on the wall of the storage compartment, in my case its on the right hand side about eye level. If you find its the solenoid you should go to e-bay. Get the number off the solenoid, look it up on e-bay and they have them in stock in Atlanta, Ga. When this happened to me I just happened to be in Atlanta and got next day delivery. Good luck.

Bad alternator. Run with your generator on until you can get the alternator back on line.

There may be a fuse in the run bay below the drivers seat. My '03 Magna has four wires to the alternator one of which is an off/on switched by the ignition. Look in your run bay or, better yet, your electrical schematics for the wire number and fuse location. When my alternator went south the cause was a broken lug on this wire at the alternator. The wire on my coach was yellow but I don't recall the wire number.

Good luck.

Joe. Recently had the exact problem you described last November. I have a 2008 intrigue with cat 525. What did you finally find was the problem. I sure appreciate any help so I can fix so it won't happen again. Somehow I think my boost solenoid is either not working at all or working intermittently.
