Battery Indicator on panel

Yahoo Message Number: 92656
I'm at an RV resort hooked up to shore power in FL for the winter. I checked the levels on my panel and noticed the battery indicator reads Good AND Fair. I always keep watch on battery water levels and also keep all connections clean. Does the battery indicator on the panel read levels for the coach battery or the starting battery? I replaced the coach batteries last winter. Normally the indicator reads "Good". Any suggestions? Thanks, and hope all of you had a joyful Thanksgiving!

Steve:

It is reading the voltage on your HOUSE batteries.

If you want to keep an eye on the starting batteries get one of these and plug into a power port on the dash works great. I have one in my Ford and my coach, when I walk in I can see the numbers if they drop I have a problem. My starting batteries read 13.4v to 13.6v when plugged in then going down the road you can see what the alternator is putting out. I got mine at Ace Hardware Amazon.com: INNOVA 3721 Battery and Charging System Monitor: Automotive Floyd

Thanks Floyd and Kevin for the input. Found the problem late last night when battery levels got so low, the carbon monoxide detector beeped, refrigerator shut down, lights dimmed, etc. Found the "charging" breaker on the inverter had tripped so the shore power was not charging the batteries. We had a power outage at the campground a few days ago - I can only assume this is when the breaker tripped. I reset the breaker on the inverter, batteries charged again, all is working fine.

If you are not sure, disconnect the chassis battery and you know.
