Smartire... again

Yahoo Message Number: 92685
So I have emailed Mark at Silverleaf to explore my options thanks for the head up.
Just picked up on E-Bay a complete new Smartire install in its box, so I have spare everything with 6 sensors. Couple of questions.
1. These sensors have non serviceable batteries, are they in hibernation until some specific action, ie do the sensors have a shelf life or on first use does the battery fire up then you are into your 7-10 years or whatever life?
2. Where is the Smartire receiver box, being lazy here and hope someone saves me tracking the wire!

With my spare kit I can see if I can program, if not I have a spare receiver to send to Dickmans.

Mike - There are several versions of the sensors. When stopped all transmit a timed signal burst. The idea is so you can get a pressure reading when the vehicle is parked. Sensors with a long interval between bursts won't deplete their batteries as quickly. But you'll wait longer to get a reading when parked. Sensors with a shorter interval use more battery power. You'll get quicker readings when parked with these. I called Bendix on this and they couldn't tell me what was what. As for shelf life, everything has one. On my sensors, a battery voltage comes back to given an idea of what's left. The sensors don't hibernate, they simply try to conserve battery power. Sensors that are 7 years old may work but with limited usable life moving forward.

These were designed for commercial motor freight where tires are changed well short of the battery life.

When the sensors begin to move, their transmit interval increases.
I think they burst every couple of minutes but not sure about that.
Can't help you on the balance of your questions. Good luck.

Best - Scott

Hi Scott,

Yes from previous responses the Orange ones are the high pressure versions I need. I have also identified that the sensors come from the factory in a special sleep state. So when I get the kit I will see what is what. I have yet to track down the black box and also get a response from Silverleaf on using my CL240 as a programmer for the new sensors. But as I said at least I will have a spare receiver!

Michael,

I believe it's possible your Silverleaf can monitor SmarTire but there needs to be an interface installed between your SmarTire control and the Silverleaf to make that happen. If you cannot see your tire pressures in your Silverleaf you may not have the interface and you will not be able to program the new sensors yourself. Here's something I found on the Silverleaf website. Hope it is of some help.

Michael,

Almost forgot. My 'Black Box' in attached to the underside of the dash with wood screws. It's left of the steering column. I have to lay on the floor in front of the drivers seat and look way up under the far left corner of the dash. You also may be able to see it if you remove the instrument cover (hump) in front of your instrument panel, but I cannot get to the screws when accessing it from above.

Good luck,

Barney

Barney, Yes I have that document and it is what has prompted me to pursue the option of using the Silverleaf to program the sensors. Either with my CL240, which does have the option to show the tyre menus, or say with the VMSpc software.
I have some emails outstanding with Silverleaf and hopefully they will come back to me with details of their box (JIB they call it).
I will let you know the outcome.
