AT&T Hotspot

Does anyone have any experience with the AT&T hotspot when out an about in your coaches? From there s you are able to hook several device's (laptop, phone, etc) to it as long as there is wi-fi available, is this true? As we have had terrible luck at most RV parks with their wi-fi..
Or is there any other options available to be able to use your laptop other than these hopspots?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I tried it with poor results. I switched to a Verizon Jet Pack. Works very well in locations
that the At&t would not work. It still depends on your location, but it appears

that Verizon has more towers.

Ken, I've had AT&T for years. I am pleased with the performance of their "hot spot" feature on my cell phone. I can run up to five connections (normally two laptops and two ipods) simantaneously. The speed (usually 54.0 mps) is not lightning fast but better than most RV park's wi-fi.

We have a AT&T hotspot. The one we have can have 5 connections, the biggest issue is being careful with your limits. We take it with us and use it when we need to. We just switched to Comcast for data and they also have wireless connections, have not tried that out. My wife uses a Verizon Jet Pack for work. Maybe had one or 2 places where they didn't work, also didn't have any bars on our iPhones at that time.

We use the Verizon Mi-Fi hotspot. You can connect up to 10 devices. Wouldn't leave home without it. We have used ours all over the USA with no problems.

I also have the Verizon Jet Pack that I use 2 computers on when we are park at RV Parks and the Wi-Fi does not work as we like. We also use it with an IPad while we are traveling. We can look at traffic and get directions for the next RV location. It will handle up to 6 different devices. I'm sure if you get that many devices, it will slow down the connection. You just have to watch your usage cause it can get expensive if you go over what you agree to. We like it.

We have been using park wi-fi and AT&T hot spot through my iPhone on the road for over a year, and we are not happy. RV park wi-fi is virtually useless because of insufficient bandwidth. In our experience, AT&T coverage is poor, particularly in rural areas. We will be moving to Verizon and its mi-fi service. We are full time and really depend on cell phones and the internet.

In Montana AT&T has better coverage than Verizon. AT&T has been buying up smaller rural cell phone companies and kicking Verizon off of their towers. We spend our summers in the mountains 40 miles from the nearest town and all cell phone coverage is bad but AT&T works better than Verizon. This is based on the experience of friends and workers trying to use their phones where we live. Wilson amplifiers do work but it is tougher in the mountains.

As someone mentioned our jet pack (AT&T has the same thing) will often work even when we have no bars on our phone. We have a lap top and wireless printer hooked up when we travel. The newer ones such as the jet pack have 4G capabilities when you are in an area where it is available.

I have used ATT, Verizon, and Sprint mobile hotspots for several years. They don't work with wifi, they replace it. The most important factor is where you will be traveling. If you stick to major metropolitan areas, any of them will work but if you are in the wilderness, none of them work well. In the upper Midwest, US Cellular works the best because they have a higher concentration of towers.

I currently only use AT&T because they have better service to most of the places I travel and I have experienced very poor customer service from Verizon and Sprint. ATT also has better service overseas.

Regardless of who you choose you need to have a plan adequate to cover the amount of data you are going to use.

You can get a phone such as an iPhone with a hotspot built in that may suffice for your needs. I prefer the ATT based iPhone because it is more full featured, allows data use and talking simultaneously.

You can get an air card from ATT or Verizon or I am sure others. It worked pretty well. I have not used the campground wifi's much because I had an air card. It plugs in to a USB port. Or you can sit at Micky D's or Starbucks.

My experience has been just the opposite, except for Rocky Mt National park area where AT&T works and Verizon doesn't. Normally every RV park we have picked AT&T was of no use or just acceptable. Therefore, we switched to Verizon and never looked back.

I use my Verizon smart phone as a hot spot all the time. With a
4-gig/mo. data plan, you can easily do most of your web browsing and
emailing for a month without exceeding the limit. As you say, park wi-fi is usually not very good. They try to save money by using plans with low bandwidth, and as soon as a few folks start using it at the same time, it gets very slow or even hangs. I have found the phone to be the most reliable means of communication I have when we travel.
