We are planning to be in the LA area sometime in February and looking for park recommendations. I have reviewed RVParkReviews without much luck. I know the LA area is tough. Our center of interest will be in the Glendale/Burbank general area. Maybe someone knows a hidden away spot? Lyle Wetherholt

The" LA area" is a pretty loose definition. Can you be a little more specific as to where?

Don,

I think I mentioned the Glendale/Burbank area. We will be visiting the Autry Museum of Western Art at Griffith Park and the LaBrea Tar pits near West Hollywood. I'm sure there is much more to see but those two have been on our bucket list for some time.

I'm looking forward too to seeing any responses. When we have visited there, we ended up at Newport Dunes in Newport Beach, and it's lovely of course and certainly pricey. But when one considers the value of the land it sits on, it's amazing it's an RV park. Not remembering a map of the LA area, I'm not sure if it's even near Pasadena or Glendale.

You might look @ East Shore RV Park San Dimas, This is a nice park. It is off the I-10 and CA 57 up in the hills away from any traffic. This might not be far enough west, however, we have used it to do some of the things you are interested in.

Nearest to Glendale/Burbank area will be Travel village near Magic Mountain in Valencia. Not close but LA isn't rv friendly at all.

There is also a K O A park in Pomona be next to the LA County Fairground about twenty miles from LA and approx. fifteen miles from Pasadena. Without much traffic Pasadena is twenty minutes away and the Tar Pits are about 45 minutes and the Gene Autry is about fourth minutes. Either park are good. Never stayed at either but have been in both because I live fairly close to them. Don't know of any parks in Glendale. If you need any direction let me know. Been traveling in this area and know most of the shortcuts and freeways

There is also a campground @ Bonelli Park called Eastshore recreational vehicle park, it is located off the Fairplex exit of the I 10 freeway , go north and turn left at the next traffic light.
We spend a week there every Feb. Ph 800/ 809-3778 some spaces overlook lake Puddingstone

This is probably closest to where you want to be. We've stayed there years ago and it was quite nice and convenient to areas you are looking at. While it is North of LA, it is still not that far and not that expensive from parks further south.

Hate to say but Magic Mountain is a lot further than San Dimas/Pomona from Glendale and a lot more traffic to time to get there

Just checked Google and the Travel Village park is 28 mi from Burbank. It is 32 mi to San Dimas from Burbank, the Pomona RV Park on White Ave is 4 or 5 miles further. I don't like the interchanges for the 10, 210 not too bad, but still you must go on city streets to get to Fairplex RV Park. I much prefer the 5 during non rush hours to the 10 or 210. If Disney Land is your goal, there are many parks around it, but not cheap.
Also, 126 is becoming a very busy highway, with lots of 18 wheelers every day except Sunday. So, if noise bothers you, get a space far back in the park.

If Disneyland is the focus, Annaheim RV Park is very close - large pull thru sites, very clean.

Many thanks for all the input. We will investigate them all. Distance to the Autry and LaBrea is not as big an issue as is travel time. We leave two puppies in our coach while we are gone and they have small bladders. Travel to and from our points of interest often leaves less time than we would like on station. Oh, the sacrifices we make for the love of a dog! Lyle Wetherholt

We stayed there for a couple weeks last spring. Relatively convenient place to stay, good amenities and reasonably priced. And the air is 1000% more breathablke than the "inland empire". My wife's mother lives in Glendale and we had no problem getting back and forth. We'll stay there again next time we are in LA. Easiest shot down to Glendale/Burbank

The tar pits will be your biggest challenge then as nothing for camping is near it. Including freeways. You have only a couple miles off the freeway but typical large city dense traffic. To Autry Iwould expect travel and to be closest during mid day. Pomona won't be too much more but more expensive. Never stayed at Koa or Puddingstone but stayed many years ago at Travel village, used to use it when kids were young for MM trips.

I live in the LA area and currently the 5 freeway is under construction again between Anaheim and LA it is tore up between the 91 and 605 right in front of campingworld

If you want to stay by the beach try dockwiller beach rv park. It is part of county beach system. Has full hook-ups and is suppose to be good from what I hear

I have stayed here before, last time $58 a night full hookup water front. It is located behind LAX off to the left for camping. We didn't notice the planes being bad at night and we had a never ending view of the islands and large ocean ships moored off shore coming or going to San Pedro Harbor. Long Beach Harbor.

I have stayed in both parks. I personally prefer the East End park in San Dimas. I have stayed there 5-6 times. It is on the top of a hill overlooking the LA fairgrounds. Very nice grassy areas around the sites. The Valencia Park is also very nice. You will not be sorry at either park. San Dimas has a much better view.

Both parks will have excessive traffic at rush hours. I suspect that the Gene Autry Museum (A great museum BTW) is a bit closer to San Dimas. I would take the 210 freeway through Pasadena unless you are going to be there on the first. If on the first avoid Pasadena at all costs. And La Brea Tar Pits easier to get to also from San Dimas.
If you want to go to Magic Mountain Valencia much better choice. My memory says San Dimas the quieter park with the big exception of the weekend they hold the Winter Nationals in Feb. I stayed there one time when they were practicing for the Winter Nationals. Wow what a sound for gear heads.
This time of year there will be no appreciable air pollution at either place. More likely you will see the really beautiful San Gabriel mountains with snow on them just north of San Dimas. They should have snow on them when you go.
