Engine starts and then stalls

Yahoo Message Number: 93926
I have a 98 country coach (CC#30195) that starts very well and then stalls. (Cummins CTA 8.3L) May run one to two seconds and quits.
After cranking several times (5-10), engine runs normal. This problem had been only happening after long shutdowns of 1-4 weeks and it would only shutdown once or twice before running before now. That was not so bad then because it helped build oil pressure, but now the oil pressure is up and I'm still cranking it several times.
Hope I can get some suggestions on the problem.
Thanks,
Roy Smith

Sounds like the fuel filter needs to be changed

Sounds like an air leak in the fuel lines or filter. The fuel is probably draining back to the tank due to the air leak. Check all the fittings, lines, filters and filter housings. I have seen these be as simple as a loose fuel filter.

My first though says," Check the filters!" Fuel and Air. Then comes the accumulator section of the injection pump, the lift pump and then the fuel lines that may be allowing air to enter the system. Your coach is of that age. TWI 1998 Allure 30255, and now 2004 Intrigue 11731

Check the fuel shut-off solenoid. It may not be staying in the open (up) position after starting.

It sounds like you may have a slow air leak and are sucking air,

I agree with the fuel shutoff solenoid . I had that happen in St George, UT in 2012. Coach was getting hard to start had to crank the engine more and more. Finally gave up in St. George. After setting for 20 minutes I was able get it started and moved to our RV spot for the night. Next morning I was able to get it started and made a 300 mile trip to Salt Lake City Cummins. They changed the soleniod and the problem was solved. They advised me that the soleniod has been upgraded and is heavier duty. No problems since.

Sounds like you may be getting air into your fuel line. Maybe from poorly seated filters or from deterioration of fuel lines.

Good luck solving your problem.

Thanks to everyone. Top notch forum!!!!!!!!!!!!
Upon a close inspection, had the wife start engine while I watched the fuel shut-off. Started right up, ran about 1-3 seconds and the fuel shutoff fell back out. Looks like time or replacement.

Thanks again all

Before you buy a new one, you need to confirm he voltage supply to it and its ground. The coil in it may be bad or it could be a bad connection or voltage supply issue.
