Wet Carpet during rain

Yahoo Message Number: 94252
I noticed the carpet is wet at the corner of the slide directly behind the driver's seat during rain storms. I'm assuming it is leaking around the seal of the slide. Is there a temporary fix to this until I can have it replaced? Has anyone replaced the seal? Is it best to change out all of the seals around the slide at the same time, or just the problem area? Any ideas on cost? Your thoughts and suggestions are very much appreciated!

Yes you are right, It is leaking around the seal.I had ours changes two times be for it stop leaking. You can put something on the flood to help with the water coming in, I did the seal all the way around. Less then $500.
Butch, in FL. got it right! All of them are not the same. If you do not get the right one! Like I did @ first it will still leak. You can go on line and fine it and if you are good @ these things? You can change it out your self ALLURE @ 2000 # 30498.

I have the same problem on my 2002 Affinity. The wet spot on my carpet is in the same place. I have had the front slide seal replaced twice in the last three years. The first place was in S Cal. It does not rain much down there so did not know it was leaking till summer big trip. We took it back. They said they could not fix it right. No refund. The second place was in Oregon. The leak is now better but still there. We are taking it back in a couple of months. They have agreed to fix it again.
I would guess this is fairly common. When you get yours fixed let me know how it went and if there were any special tricks to getting it done right.

I place a strip of 2" wide "200 mile per hour tape" on the bottom front and back bottom edges of all slides, leaving 1/4" hanging below the slide. This makes a place for the water to run off rather than run in. Your coach must be level of course.

In my experience with the leak you describe, it is rarely the slide seal. Far more likely to be the seams on the roof of the slide. Both my Allure and Magna had water on the floor in front of the front slide. In both cases, the replacement of the seal solved nothing. In both cases a thorough resealing of the roof seams completely solved the problem. I had the work, both successful and unsuccessful done by Fountain in Lakeland FL.

On mine, it wasn't the seal. There is a trough inside at the bottom of the driver's front LR slide seal. I accessed mine by removing the inside slide curtain behind the driver's seat (3 screws). The trough collects the water that leaks past the un-100%sealable slide corners and drains it out a drain-hose that can be seen outside on mine, right behind the driver's front wheel. The trough egress hole on mine was plugged with debri and allowed the trough to overflow the water onto the carpet. No proplems after clearing the plugged trough.

Ditto on the plugged drain line for our 2002 Allure. The carpet at the front of the bedroom slide got wet suddenly. Turned out to be a blockage in the drain trough/hose. I applied a little air pressure to the drain hose - just ahead of the driver-side drive wheels and the drain cleared. No problem since.
If you can access the drain trough, just dump in some water and see how quickly it drains out. You could save mucho $$$ if your problem is this simple.

100 mph tape is high quality duct tape. The cloth base is slightly thicker and much stronger than the cheap stuff. The coating is thicker and doesn't dry out in the sun. And of course the adhesive is the nasty stuff that holds the tape securely. I buy mine at a HVAC supply house.

I don't know about 100MPH but check out "Gaffers Tape" Its similar to Standard Duct Tape but it should not harm the finish, is much stronger and does a much better job . . . in most cases. But, you have to look for it, as a last resort Grainger (expensive) excellent tape.

Hi All.

Here is a link to Gaffers Tape, I have never found it at retail stores. The good thing about it is you can get it in basic colors and there is none of the residue left by Standard Duct Tape. Comes off clean no problems. You can see all the different grades used from nuclear, racing and HVAC as well as Mil-Spec. Take a look if you like, just trying to help. Re-paint is not fun. In my experience, this Tape is far better than Gorrilla or any tape at Retail stores tape. I would have a roll on board, just in case ?
Conformable(Gaffer's)--Tape is flexible, tough, and releases cleanly from surfaces.It's0.012" thick and has a temperature range of 40° to 200° F.
