Coach Leveling

Interesting discussion going on.

I believe that the only way that the entire coach can be leveled when sitting on un-level ground is using blocks under the wheels. Any other way, if the wheels are touching the ground and the body of the coach is sitting level then the entire coach is not level. Just part of it is. What happens during the process of achieving that condition or after it has been achieved is a matter of of laws of physics. How those laws apply in my opinion is a matter of the degree of out of level in the first place. Pushing out the slides when the coach is off level by only a small amount is one thing. Pushing them out when the coach is so off level that you would not have been able to level it either with jacks or air bags is another thing altogether.
I don't see how you are going to know if you will be able to achieve level if you don't try it first under the optimum condition that being with the slides retracted. Regardless of whether the uneven weight of the slides may cause the coach to go out of level, the optimum is to start when level. The only reason I have heard so far from manuals for pushing out the slides first is just that. You may have to re-level afterwards if you level first. This reason provides no physical facts or reasons. It is purely convenience based. Now if there are better factual reasons coming from the manufactures or coach builders them I would love to hear them.
My 2004 Allure was had bag leveled. it had one hydraulic slide, namely the bedroom, and two electric slides. The hydraulic slide was controlled by an HWH controller that had a partial interlock. When you pressed the automatic leveling button on the HWH leveling controller a yellow light came on on the HWH slide controller if you had the controller key turned on. While that light was on I could not extend the bedroom slide. It went off either when the coach had achieved level or given up trying. So I could not move the bedroom slide while the coach was in the process of automatic leveling. The two electric slides had no interlock at all and could be extended at any time.
But I digress. The reason I got involved in the discussion was from practical experience. If you, like me, level and then push out the slides, don't push them out if your were not able to achieve side to side level in a 40 ft Allure Newport. Like me you may crack the windshield. Been there and done that and I should have know better. Being out of level side to side is far more precarious than front to back.
