Changing bulbs

To those who have changed from the 2 prong halogen bulbs to flat leds...

Regarding the Flat G4 type replacements. Trying to find out if after replacing the bulbs, do you wish that you would have gone with a brighter light?
They have 6, 9, 12, or upto 21 bulbs..just looking for suggestions.

I have the G4 fixtures with out the frosted covers over the sofas dining table, head of the bed, and computer desk in the bed room. They came with 20 watt lamps and I replaced them the 3rd time around with 10 watts except over the computer table. The replacements have lasted a lot longer than the originals which averaged about 2 to 3 season. The ones I have in now are approaching 7 years.

I replaced with the 6; plenty of light and exceeds the originals. Very pleased with the results?

Hi I have been playing with these lights trying to find the one I like. I have 40 total so I am only buying a couple at a time until I find the ones I want. All the samples I have tried have been fine for the light output. I think they may even be a little brighter. The problem I am having is with the color. The daylight lights are very white and the warm white are about half way to the color of the halogens. I prefer the more yellow light. The lights from Kaper I got from Kevin are the best style. They are smaller and flatter then the rest and fit the puck lights better plus they are more responsive to dimming but there still a little whiter then I want. That's not to say you wouldn't love them. I would ask Kevin to send you one to check out.

I have a 2000 Magna and tried a few different sizes for the over head lights before I settled on a disc bulb that has 6 diodes, 21mm dia., 210 lumen, .9 watts, warm white light. I bought them on Ebay for about $2 each. They seem to have about the same light as the 10w Halogens. The larger diameter disks would not fit into my fixtures. I used a different shape bulb for the side lights, they had similar lumen output but use about 2 watts.

It's not just the light bulb, but the fixture too, because I tried other bulbs in the fixture with the same result and I moved that bulb into other fixtures with no interference. Must be the fixtures' location.

The first question is the Kelvin rating you like from 2700K to 6000K. The 2700K is closer to the 10W Halogen. I prefer the 3500K range. I put 6 leds in the ceiling and under the overhead storage. I put brighter leds over the refrigerator and sink area to create better task lighting.

I looked at the light bulbs and can find no ID Numbers on them, they are made in China. Ebay no longer lists my purchase history for them either. I did find a number for the spot light bulbs that I used for the side lights. An Ebay search 'led light 88008767' brought up bulbs that look the same. These will not work in the overhead. These lights are polar; turn them around if they don't light up.
For the over head lights I did an ebay search of 'led light g4 12v 210 lumen' and found some that look like mine. They are G4 sockets and have 6 diodes, 210 lumen, warm light, and 21mm dia. disk, and .9 watts.
There seems to be no correlation between the wattage, the number of diodes, and the brightness. Look for 21mm or smaller, mine barely fit. 200 Lumens seems to be equal to the 10w Halogens. I bought samples until I found what would work. Some of the test bulbs I got were too large, some were not bright enough, 90lm.
Some of the 'too large' lights I had tested were also very bright, 400plus lumen. I used these to replaced the florescent bulbs in the fixtures over the sinks and outside under the canopy. I gutted out the fixtures florescent stuff and installed some G4 sockets that I again found on ebay. They are 1/2in dia. So I just used ½ in plumbing straps to fasten them to the fixture.
I would say that if you are a full timer and plugged in all the time the conversion may not be worth the effort. But we like to dry camp and my goal is to be able to spend the week end without running the genset. I have replaced about 40 light bulbs burning about 412 watts with lights burning 54 watts. If I use one third of the lights for 4 hours, the power savings would be 40 amps or, more than 1/10th of my battery's capacity.

Point to consider depending on which bulbs you change out. Some leds are dimmable and some are not. Also, on my 2006 Allure I did not have a problem with the diameter of the led disk. I am using both 6 led for general area lighting and 9 leds for better task lighting.
