Greetings!

Name is Don and I'm Just saying Hi.
I'm looking at purchasing a 2006 42' Van Gogh. 7k miles. Two owners and garaged kept by both. I've heard nothing but good things about Country Coach. My only worry is low mileage means low use and there might be some issues related to that. It's in amazing shape as far as I can tell. This is our first coach so I am a rookie. I've had several boats that equated to Coach living but you're limited to where you can go. Seems that water is a must.
Anyway, Greetings all!

Hi Don,

First, welcome to a great forum.

I would also be concerned about the low miles. Some mechanics say that sitting is just as bad as over use. Hopefully someone with experience will chime in. Also, even though the tires may be original and look great, they should be replaced.
I lived aboard a boat and then took it to Mexico but it was time to see some of the interior of N. America. So, Yes Country Coach is a terrific RV and if you can get a good price to allow for contingencies like hoses, seals, etc. you may be fine.

Hi Don, I bought a coach 18 months ago and had it checked out by a local dealer who did not do anything except take my money. My advice is find a local source who is familiar with CC to go over the coach. Someone on this blog will know if you tell us the location of the coach. Good looks can hide a host of repairs/ maintenance needed. I did not do this and ended up spending $20,000 plus to get the coach road ready. Good travel. Mike 11422.

Hey John, thanks for the welcome! Price is $221k. Interesting history. First owner bought it new and put 1,800 miles on it. His wife died from cancer before he had a chance to use the coach. The second owned a car dealership. He purchased it for himself and his wife to do some traveling. They picked it up from the first owner in California and brought it back to Maryland through the southern route. Made a couple of short trips but unfortunately he got cancer and died. His wife doesn't want it any longer and the children (30's) are 5th wheel campers. The kids are selling it through the dealer even though it is a private owner. Well sort of, my guess is the dealership "owns it" for tax purposes. Good for me for ease of title and tags. I've done some research and the price seems reasonable for the coach. It was lowered from $296k.

Sound advice Mike. I'll search around. I need to figure out how this group is set up. It's a little different the the forums I've belonged to.

Tires have been mentioned, there is the PTO issue, filter adhesives break down and all should be replaced. Coolant issues are usually pollution, but to be safe replace that, too, along with an updated charge filter with blue or green coolant. Check windows and seals for leaks. Small fuel hoses for hydrohot and genset will need replacement as will the small hoses for the engine cooling system. The fan controller and the thermo stat require the coach to be driven a few days under stress to determine if they are working properly. Batteries will have to be replaced, too. TV's maybe be obsolete, but hopefully not. Transynd in the transmission should be tested and the filters replaced in any event. You'd be doing this if you owned the coach from new, too. The descant filter for the air system should be replaced. Fuel filters updated. If you have red coolant for the engine the charge filter or additive should be added if the coolant passes chemical testing. The chassis needs lubing by someone who understands the do's and don'ts where the IFS front suspension is concerned.

It doesn't seem like that great of a deal to me. I have a 2007 45' Affinity Alexander Valley with a 600 HP Cummins and I have lowered the price to 325K and it hasn't sold yet...Maybe I'm not advertising correctly. It has a similar history and garage kept during it's time and only has 17,700 miles. Cheers...Scott

As far as being a good deal, I don't know. But they lowered the price $75k. I've seen similar coaches within a year or two above and below this from $225k to $240k. So this seems to be in the right ballpark. But again, I'm new at this. The owner's son went on a weekend camping trip over Easter last weekend. He said everything works well except for the overhead TV in the front which he is going to replace. Putting aside the fact that the owner owned the local Chevy dealership, I know he took exceptionally good care of his personal stuff. I've been in contact with a friend who owns a construction company with a lot of dump trucks and heavy equipment. He also has a coach with a semi-tractor front, don't know what they call those types... Maybe class A puller? Anyway, I'm going to have someone from his shop check it out and at least do the engine maintenance if required. So we'll see if everything plays out. But it's a lot of investment to make without getting it checked out.
