No hot water pressure

Plenty of cold pressure but no hot water flow. Service tech at Nashville Camping World said to look for check valves that may need reset. Anyone know where these are located? Thanks! Steve

You can also join this group (No cost) and this person has been very helpful in trouble shooting and fixing things via his site. I had a valve stop working in Alaska and he helped me get it fixed, all via his site... Good Luck

Update:

Completely flushed hot water tank. This is an Atwood 10 gallon water heater. Also removed and cleaned check valve on hot water line (outgoing from water heater). Reassembled and filled tank. Water flow has returned though still not as forceful as cold water flow - however - I can only get luke warm water when faucets are all the way on hot. At times, sounds like water is surging in hot water tank. Opened over flow valve on outside water heater to be sure water was hot - it was. So, some improvement, but still not very hot water to any faucets.
Is there some type of mixing valve for hot/cold that may be malfunctioning? Should I just replace the check valve with a new one even though it seems to have cleaned up okay? Any other thoughts or suggestions I could try? Many thanks to all!

On the faucet in the plumbing bay, are the hot and cold knobs turned off? If they are open, it will cause the hot and cold water to mix giving you luke warm water.

We have a bypass valve for winterizing (lets us drain the water heater and not fill with antifreeze). I screwed up and left the valve open once and had the same symptoms. Luke warm water at all faucets but at the heater water was hot. Three valves behind water heater, 1 shuts off cold in, 1 shuts off hot out, and one in a pipe between the hot and cold (I had left all these open). Valves are accessible in a small cutout in the bay next to water heater. My aggravating experience with a 1998 Allure.

Once again checked pressure relief valve and plenty of very hot water is in the tank. Examined back of water heater and cannot find any mixing valve. Simple set up - cold water in, hot water out, bypass valves to connect for winterizing. Checked bypass valves and they are in correct position. When running hot water through any of the faucets, I can hear (not sure best way to describe) a gurgling sound or water surging inside tank - is this normal, or could the valves be restricting water flow and causing this noise?


Is it possible the valves are worn and still allowing enough cold water to mix in with the hot water line? Should I replace the bypass valves and check valve to see if that was the problem (cheap fix).
Does the outside hot/cold water knobs then serve as some type of mixing valve since it is important to be sure they are both off?
Sorry for the bother, but really would like to get to the bottom of this if possible! Many thanks!

The outside faucet, if the valves are open can let hot and cold water mix but if both are shut off, then it can't happen.

Is the luke warm water being produced by the electric element?
Have you tried running the propane portion of the water heater? Same results?

There is the possibility of a bad thermocouple .
There is no place in the system other than the outside shower, the inside shower or kitchen faucet where hot and cold come together.

Toilet sink faucet and all other faucets luke warm only. When I first turn on hot water at toilet sink it gets very hot for about 5 seconds and then cools down to luke warm.

One I just thought of is a heater bypass not fully in the use position vs bypass or the valve is leaking.

I suggest you drain your hot water heater and put about 6 gallons of vinegar in it if it's a 10 gallon water heater. fill it the rest of the way with water. turn on the heating element and leave it on for a few hours. remove all the little caps from your faucet outlets. drain the tank and use one of those little flush wands. you will be amazed what comes out of there.

If you have hot water in the water heater and luke warm at the faucets it is mixing somewhere in the system.

I must admit that I have not been following this thread religiously. But, it sounds like the possible solutions are not working yet. However here is something to consider:

Are you the original owner? Are you sure it is a 10 gallon unit?

Atwood offered a 6 gallon capacity water heater that they called a "9 gallon" because it gave you the equivalent of a 9 gallon tank. It was cleverly designed to super heat the water then an automatic metering mixer valve would blend the cold water with the super-hot to give you the proper temp at the tap. So, it simulated having much more capacity than its standard 6 gallon tank counterpart. I almost opted to replace my 6 gallon with one of these when it failed in 2006 because it would have fit in the same rough opening. But, the warranty co. insisted on replacing with the exact same unit as the OEM.
Do you think that the previous owner might have replaced the original with this unit? Check with Atwood. Give them your model and serial number. If you have one of these, perhaps the metering mixer valve may be the culprit.

Whatever you have, I would give the manufacturer a shout with this perplexing problem. They may be able to help you troubleshoot.

I had hot water briefly, then lukewarm. Aquahot service replaced the emergency shut-off part. Back to normal.

Walter, I did check model number of water heater and it is an actual 10 gallon water heater. Thank you very much for this input!
I replaced the check valve (outgoing hot line) and also replaced the bypass valves. I believe the check valve was responsible for the very low water pressure and I found the bypass valve on the cold line was malfunctioning and therefore allowing cold water to mix in with the hot water line just as several of you had thought!
I also completely flushed the water heater with vinegar water and then used the wand to completely rinse the tank inside.
I have better hot water flow than ever and there is no cross contamination of cold water anymore. My thanks go out to all of you for walking me through this process and hanging in there with me to resolve the problem! I appreciate everything you've done!
