Hi Gerald - Just went thru what we hope was a false alarm on my Coolant Boost Pump starting to fail too. I put the message number and heading below, for others to read if it helps them too.
We have never had any moisture on the ground, nor never needed to add coolant. We're on a long trip for us, just hit the 7K mile mark last week. I noted a darker coating of dirt/dust (ALCAN Highway always has long stretches of construction going on.). No actual signs of moisture, but knew it looked 'different'. Great help from board members, and Kevin Waite too.
Just yesterday I had a mechanic along the way look at it with me, and after looking it over well, the conclusion was my coolant hose clamps had loosen up enough for a slight escape of fluid. This was tossed onto the pump as we drove, and then the dirt/dust attached to this.
He tightened up the clamps, and again checked for leakage around gaskets on the Boost Pump, and we're going to run with this for awhile. I'll monitor this closely as it's not fun dumping your coolant.
I think I'm also just going to have it bypassed during my next major maintenanced cycle.
Thanks for sharing, and hope you don't mine me posting the hose clamps loosening to your thread too. (Thread number below, if anyone wants to check this out.)
Best to all, be safe, have fun,
Smitty
