Our 2012 Jeep is the same way as others... hit the ignition switch twice (without starting the vehicle - no foot on brake), Press on the brake and move the trans shifter to Neutral and press the little button until you hear the transfer case disconnect. keep your foot on the brake and shift back to park, turn off the ignition. If the vehicle is on any type of incline. it will roll forward or backwards. It is really easy and fast. Woody, I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Summit and I had a Blue Ox tow bar base plate installed. All I have to do is put the car in neutral, foot on the brake, push the small button at the bottom of the 4 wheel drive selector with a ball point pin for 4 seconds and you will hear the drive shaft disconnect. They recommend then that you take off the emergency brake, put it into reverse to make sure you are disconnected, put it back in neutral and turn off the car. You do not need to leave the ignition on. The car will tell you on your speedometer that the drive shaft is disconnected and it will automatically put the car in park. To reconnect the drive shaft, put foot on brake, start the car, push the same small button with pen for 1 to 2 seconds and it will again be engaged. Easy as can be. Your owners manual should tell you all of this also.
