Slide out not working

Yahoo Message Number: 97061
Several times recently when pushing the button to extend the slide, I can hear it trying to run, but the slide out doesn't move. I try numerous times and then occasionally it will extend. I'm concerned that I may be doing damage to the slide out when pushing the button so many times without it extending. Any ideas what I should look to repair or service? Thanks all! Steve

Your probably low on voltage. Is the coach running when you try to extend the slide? If your not running the coach try starting the engine and try it again. Sometimes the wire connections become oxidized and you have to clean the connections.

Yes the coach is always running before I extend or retract the slide. I'm mechanically "challenged" so I'm not sure if the slide is operating from electric or hydraulic. I will check and clean the connections also. Thanks for the suggestion Kevin! Steve

I keep forgetting not all the slides are hydraulic. Need to establish whether it is hydraulic or gear driven. On my hydraulic slides I can hear the pump running but nothing happens when it gets into a low voltage situation. I would also suppose if you had a broken shear pin or gear you would hear the electric motor running as well.

Had the same problem with my front slide. Problem was a faulty extend/retract switch on the HWH control panel. Don '02 Intrigue 11427

Is the HWH control panel located in the access panel on the dash across from the passenger seat? Is the extend/retract switch clearly marked on the control panel? Thank you.

It is on the small control panel where you turn the key on so you can extend the slides. Mine is center console, down low, with a regular key in it. It is the rocker switch that you use to extend or retract the slide. Don '02 Intrigue 11427

Thanks Don! Did you replace the rocker switch or clean the wiring connections to the switch? If you replaced it, where did you order the part? As Kevin suggested, I checked to be sure the slide is hydraulic. I can hear the pump running when pressing the switch, but the slide does not move. Engine is running when trying to extend slide out. I appreciate all your suggestions and assistance.

Steve, This HWH Switch has 3 Contacts, Power which is working, Extend & Retract neither are working. Have to Replace. Call Kevin Waite to see if he has one in stock 541-953-6162 or HWH direct 563-724-3396.

They just wear out, had to replace on my 03 Allure.

Steve, I got my switch from HWH at a FMCA convention for $8.00. They are easy to replace, usually there isn't a problem with wiring. You might want to take a look at the traces on the circuit bard to see if one has cracked, use a magnifying glass. Have a friend that had a broken trace. Go here to see the inner working of the switch I took apart so you can see what breaks.

I started to replace my switch too but I checked the voltage at the switch and I had a strong 12 volts on the input side of the switch and when the switch was activated the voltage was low on the output side. I cleaned the contacts and it's been working as it should for the past 2 years.

If hydraulic, check the fluid level in the reservoir. Mine is located in the bay below the driver's seat --

Update:

Fluid level was full in reservoir. I cleaned all contacts and connections on switch also connections to extend and retract solenoid. So far everything is working fine but for $8 I will still order a new switch for spare parts to keep on hand. Thank you to all who have assisted me! Steve
