07 Intrigue - Steps won't retract

Yahoo Message Number: 97161
I've done the usual trouble shooting - fuses/breakers, bayonet off/on, wires at the door jamb. No help. Any ideas? Is there a way to manually retract them? A quick response appreciated.

I had my steps stay out and it ended up being a broken wire in the harness. I got a new harness from Kevin Whait. On mine I thought I could remove the actuator arm from under the steps to manually push in.

Folks,

Opened the door panel. Set the step actuator pin in the "door close" position. Inspected the wire bundle that goes into the door for frays, manipulated the abused section of wires individually, trying for a contact, nothing. When pushing the bayonet on/off pin I thought I heard 2 clicks, one at the pin switch, one seeming to come for below . . . the motor??? Maybe bad.

Have given up for now, we have to hit the road. Disconnected the bars that move the 2 steps and got the steps in. Am using tie-downs and a bunge to hold the steps in. Also pulled a fuse. Will deal with it after the trip.

Thanks for the offers of help.

Not a fix, but helped me with a similar problem (ext. steps would not retract). Lightly tapped the motor from below with a small hammer and it starting working again. I have done that twice now and am planning to replace the motor next. Good luck.

A couple of years ago I put on a new set of Steps as Warren Cat left my door open with the steps extended and destroyed them pulling it into their work bay along with the fiberglass around them.
Kwikee changed the style of motors they used on their steps since the model that you should have. They used to use a brush motor and now they use a digital motor and controller.
I hooked up my new steps according to their schematics and they extended when they should have retracted and vise versa along with some other problems. Kwikee basically doesn't have a tech support line that you can use real time but their instructions are simple and have a good troubleshooting section but it still didn't address my problem. So I called the company I bought them from and they said "you had to change to a different style of door switch due to the change of motor types"? and they sent me one. But that wasn't the real reason you need to change the switch. Kwikee changed the internal wiring on their steps from the the older style because if you lost ground to the older style steps they would extend. (scary). Kwikee reversed the logic by changing the wiring. Long story made short, you can use your original switch. As I recall, mine was a double throw/double pole door switch and I was able to reverse the wiring on. The set of steps that I received the motor wiring on the steps was wrong from the factory. The wiring polarity was reversed from the controller to the motor from where it should have been, which I just cut, swapped and spliced. I also had to reverse my step on/off switch wiring. I highly suspect that the original wiring on the coach was wrong from the factory because when I would disconnect my house batteries my steps would stay out when I shut the door. So I would have to close the door/steps then turn off the house disconnect switch and climb out of the coach without steps if I didn't want the steps extended with the house batteries turned off. To turn back the house batteries back on I had to climb in the coach without steps as well, which was a real pain in the ass. Now the steps open and close as they should when the house batteries are disconnected. I feel better now that I know if my steps loose their ground they will stay shut. Before Kwikee changed their wiring they could loose their ground and extend and not give you any kind of warning that they are out.
