Maintenance expenses

Did an interesting analysis of our expenses on the coach since we bought it. We ended up with an average of $4700 per year in maintenance expenses since we bought it in 2001. That is not including fuel purchase. It does include some elusive maintenance problems like the Jake brake, that no one so far has been able to fix, and the preventive replacement of all coolant hoses in 2013. Thought I'd put it on the forum. Has anyone else looked at overall expenses with their coach?

I keep track of all expenses (other than fuel) also. We are 18 months into ownership and if I annualize the data, it comes to nearly $7K per year. However, that number includes some expenses that should not repeat for some years...... like $1700 for new AGM house batteries and expenses for tweaks/repairs that should not repeat. I did not include what we spent on some new furniture, LED light upgrades, polished brass to nickel interior upgrades, and some self-induced repairs (replace/paint damaged compartment door).

At this point, I would expect the annual number to drop.

Sorry,

I forgot to include that. It is a 1995 Affinity. Big expense last year replacing coolant hoses and renovating chassis. I don't see major expenses for a while now--should be good for another 20 years!

This is an interesting thread. We have had our 06 Inspire since April of 06 and have done the PTO, new radiator and charge air cooler and two years later had to have radiator rebuilt. Replaced hoses and thermostats. Do oil change, etc plus alignment yearly; service air dryer and hydraulic filter system biannually, replaced tires, shocks, batteries. Replaced front AC. We think we r about $3500 a year w/o counting fuel and the Samsung refrig.
Question re the sleeper couch.. Our mattress on the couch has never held air do it's time to find a more comfy couch w mattress and get rid if this couch. Any suggestions please as to brands we can research? Thank you.

I keep track of everything I buy for our coach. Don't think I have ever had a year under 5K. This year I am probably pushing 10K Needed to do some much needed maintenance on slide leaks.

I also have extensive records on all coach expenses. I keep mine in 3 categories, Routine Maintenance, Repairs, and Upgrades. I purchased the 2007 Inspire 360 "DaVinci" in Dec 2010. Since then we have accumulated a total of $24,360 in expenses, of which $17,812 I paid out of pocket and the remainder was paid XtraRide. Of course, I purchased a 4 year plan from XtraRide when I bought the coach, so it has more than paid for itself. Of the totals, $11,801 was for Repairs to include a new rear heat pump, inverter, fan controller, ECM module, new shocks, and a new patio awning electric motor. For Upgrades, we spent $4,701 for the PTO wet kit, the tow bar and brackets, the SMI Air Force One Toad brakes. The remaining $7,857 was for Maintenance to include, all 6 new Michelin Tires, new house and chassis batteries, all annual routine maintenance, and a replacement Air Dryer (the Air Dryer that came on the coach was not serviceable, wonder why CC would do that, so I had a replacement unit installed that we can change the filter).

I average about $3300 a year in maintenance and repairs. It wouldn't be as high if the Michelins had held up as well as they should have and the Toyos hadn't started to separate a few years years early. Napa batteries failing after 6 months also added to the expenses. If I hadn't had the genset throw a magnet and have radiator and charge air problems would have helped, too. The pump section of the fuel injection system the lift pump and the jake brake needing repairs also added. Fortunately the original 6 year extended warranty helped a lot and I was able to twist Doug Rutherford's arm while he was at Country Coach, OMC in Eugene has bent over back ward to help, too. I really mis Chris Snyder, he was great while in Tucson at Beaudry and on his own. If it weren't for that the average would be over $6,000 a year. Les Schwab and CC helped with the Toyos and Les Schwab warranted the Michelins so I got off easy I guess. The never ending problems with the Fan controllers have vexed me. I finally gave up and got a Scientific systems wax controller and gave up on the Sauer Danfoss. Eric installed it for me in Tucson. And my normal temp is 185 degrees and my fuel milage has dropped about 1/10 to 2/10 of a gallon. From 8.3 to 8.2 to 8.1 on a recent trip to Houston and the Hill Country of Texas. So I'm happy there. The latest issue is one of roller bearing for my slide room that rides in a rail is shedding steel balls. I was able to get Actuators from NW RV supply for my bay doors to replace the ones that failed. He carries 3 types. You need to make a plat form for the new actuator and Jerry rig the connecting piece from the door latch assembly, but once you have done one its an easy process.

Most of the time the Jake brake does not work on high. Sometimes it only gives me the medium and no high or low. Somewhat temperamental, and usually frustrating.
