Engine Questions Cummins 330HP

Yahoo Message Number: 99981
Hey All,

This is a repost with details after a very general first attempt.

I have made an offer subject to mechanical and house systems inspection.

This is a 2001 Intrigue 40' single slide with a Cummins 330HP engine 46009713 Coach VIN 4U7B6EK11Z1102056
Transmission 6510268642

I am taking it to the Cummins folks in Portland this week for a lookover.  Everything else is working now.  .  The price is 54K and the outside is very well kept.  No fading or pealing.  The roof does have a couple delam areas,  no leaks currently that I can see.  Tires and batteries 2 years old, no checking- good tread.  Coach lived in CA most of its life.  8K Onan 2300 hrs.  Starts, idles, runs, shifts, steers and stops well.

Any wisdom on this particular coach and engine would be appreciated.  I have had a bunch of diesels in the past but not a CC and not this engine/trans.

Vince

I would think you have a 350 HP engine.
After  # 11285  the engine was changed to a ISL 370 as an option,
#11322 the ISC 350 was made standard.

I would make sure you have transynd in the transmission  and the hydraulic fluid for the slides has the clear HWH fluid.  The hydraulic system for the power steering and Fan should have Dexron and the filters should be changed.  make sure the fan controller is working and the Fan isn't at high speed all the time..    Of course the TV's and  the sound system are obsolete, unless updated.  The  Hydronic heating system can be tricky and takes someone with experience to keep it running.    Light fixtures and switches  can be found at Northwest RV supply in Eugene, though the switches are red instead of green, easier on the eyes at night.    Hinges for cabinets can sometimes be found at Davis cabinets in Junction City.  Holler if you need a source for the screen door latch.    make sure the Coolant in the engine and genset is current.

I would take it to the Cummins people in Cohburg, they are much more familiar with CC coaches.  And have techs that worked for CC on staff.  Have them check your ride height valves after  you finish loading it  for a trip.  Split  Weight the coach on the week end at one of the states inspection stations for free.  Does it have a Satellite dish?      Make sure the slides work smoothly and don't want to creep out after being closed.  be prepared  to have lift  pump and  engine brake issues, small leaks.  Replace the filter on the Air system.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731    PS always post the serial number of the unit it makes it easier for us to be more precise with our answers.

Say HI to our Magna sitting at Cummins in Portland! Got to drive it 2,600 miles before the ISX blew just before the TA truckstop south of Portland. $29,000 in damage and it's the second time it's done it. Not a good thing for a 1,000,000 mile engine. Also going to get it's third turbo and only 44,000 miles!

Thomas had some excellent input.  Also while you are at Cummins have them calibrate and check the ECM for updates.  This was recommended by the Cummins rep at a Tiffin rally last fall.  I took mine to Cummins NW and had them check... it was 16 updates behind!!!  Obviously it had never been updated.  Ran like a top after that.  The Rep told everyone you should take it in for ECM software updates every year or so for best engine performance.  For reference, I put my receipt online here
http://www. Wind-seeker.com/tech/Cummnis_NW_ECM.pdf As for the Hydro Hot, Thomas is right, they are tricky and you really ONLY want to have it service by an factory authorized service tech.  Find one here:

I see your prime question is about engine however you make a note about tires. Don't go by looks! Go only by DOT numbers on tires. Last 4 numbers give week and year of manufacture. FMCA recommends not to past 5/6 years.
