cost of new towing apparatus

We are the proud fairly new owners of a 2007 45 foot intrique.  At first we weren't ready for a toad but we're starting to think about it.  We would need to buy everything for a 2005 Honda Accord, the tow bar, and breaking system.

We appreciate any input about specific products to buy and a ballpark cost for everything.

Thanks!

M&G makes a  braking and disconnect system in case of separation from the coach and to help reduce stoping distances.  I had the system on my 04 Odessey and on my 2012 CR-V.  Texas doesn't require the braking system but does require the separation system, so you need the braking system, too.  I had mine installed at the Home Office in Athens Texas.  Depending on the car and coach they install the system at FMCA rallies in the past with a prior appointment.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

We have a 2008 Honda Fit which, according to the manual, is suitable for flat towing.  We have towed it probably 10000 (unrecorded) miles with nary a problem.  (Caveat: When we got to Santa Fe on its first trip, the transmission quit.  After we read [to the service staff] the manual's specifications regarding flat towing behind a motorhome, said failed transmission was replaced at no cost to us, and now at 65000 miles on the Fit there are still no problems.  Every once in awhile something out of the norm will happen).  We are very happy with our Fit.  I note with displeasure that the latest models of the Fit are NOT flat-towable, assumably because of the use of a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) which is also used in hybrid vehicles (also not towable).  Why don't the manufacturers provide an option to override the CVT?  Otherwise, there is a large market being ignored.

We just purchased everything for our toad/towing system. We went with the Airforce one breaking system, which seems to be the most popular recomendation on the various forums  and blue ox towing system. I found the best pricing for both at PPL out of Houston and the total cost for materials was $2022. We are currently in the process of getting everything installed, so don't have a final price on installation. We're going to be towing a Grand Jeep Cherokee.....

Most Ford Hybrids with CVTs are towable.  It is Honda's application of the CVT that makes it non towable.

Ken;

I agree with the inability to override or opt out of the CVT.  I've towed an '02 CR-V since new (over 60,000 towed miles) and have thought about replacing it.  I really like the CR-V, but the 2015 (and presumably subsequent years) is not towable.  Obviously, Honda has lost my sale!

There are still a few new 2014's floating around.  The 3 Honda dealers were running adds here a few weeks ago in Las Cruces and El Paso.  TWI 2004  Intrigue 11731.
