HELP NEEDED With Throttle Problem

Yahoo Message Number: 7628
We're having a problem. Here's the symptoms:
1.The engine will not respond to gas pedal pressure.
2.Without warning, no dash lites come on, no engine falter nor bucking.
3.Engine remains at idle speed and does not die. Coach coasts, slowing gradually.
4.After braking to a stop, still at idle speed, within seconds engine responds to throttle normally once again.
5. Has Occured at different speeds...35 - 65 mph.
6.Hadn't experienced this Problem til reached 30,000 miles. Now have 32,000 on odometer.
7.Taken it to 3 Cummins repair shops. 1st SHOP found "faulty Radiator cap" via laptop diagnosis>>>"loss of radiator pressure reading". New cap installed + 15,000 mile service performed. 2nd SHOP found NO Problems via their computer diagnosis.
Jorie (CC Tech. Support + Electric tech Jake troubleshooting concluded throttle mechanim/assembly/ Pressure sensor was faulty.
Entire Throttle assembly replaced ( $300.00 + ).
8. PROBLEM PERSISTS.
9.The recalled oil pressure sensor was replaced 10,000 miles ago.
I don't recall seeing any similar posts.
Any / ALL HELP appreciated....Thanks in advance....

Don, if you are getting alot of black smoke when trying to rev the engine, you can bet the trouble is your pacbrke. I had that ptoblem with my 2000 Intrigue and ended up getting a replacement from Pacbrake.

Walt,

I didn't see any mention of black smoke in his post. Why do you mention black smoke in this context? I have had black smoke on my 2000 CC since it was new. CC finally got their vendor to replace the CAC and that has reduced the black smoke considerable. Now, I understand this doesn't relate to Don's problem since he didn't say anything about black smoke but thought it was interesting that CC will get a vendor to fix a problem even though they were not able to fix it during the first 3 years I owned the coach and spent numerous days and weeks in service facilities trying to get a fix...Don's problem will probably be accidently identified when he finds a tech who has a different slant on looking at the problem, it seems it takes a lot of looks before many of these problems are identified.

I mentioned the black smoke ( ALOT of black smoke) because I had that problem with my previous CC (00 Intrigue).

I would check the pac brake. Same thing happened to mine. Next time it does it turn off the exhaust brake, put the trans in neutral with your foot off the throtle then put the trans back in drive. If it goes it,s the pac brake. Hard to explain but thats what mine was doing. 2000 Intrique

Walt,

Did you have the black smoke at all times or was it only when you accelerated? Mine was most prevalent whenever I was acelerating and especially so after a slow down and then reacceleration. What did you do to fix your smoke problem?

Ray, I think we're talking about two different problems. The black smoke I was talking about occurred when the pac brake stuck and the coach would not move at all, with smoke rolling out of the exhaust when the accelerator was depressed. Black smoke which occurs when operating the coach is, I believe, a product of valves needing adjustment. The older Cummins engines with mechanical fuel pumps always displayed a little bit of smoke, but the ISC and ISL engines don't if operating properly. I'm no mechanic, and am just basing my opinion on experience with all three engines. I travel with a Buddy who has a 97 Intrigue with the 325 Cummins, and he showed alot of smoke when accelerating, especially in high altitudes. Valve adjustment minimized the problem.

Walt,

Thanks for your comments, I look forward to the day when I have no black smoke from the exhaust but I think it will probably happen when I spend a lot more money and trade in my current Intrigue...
I will say that the new CAC did reduce the black smoke significantly and I will be visiting a Cummins facility soon to see if there is any additional help they can provide like replacing fuel injectors or adjusting something. Hate to go into those service facilities as they usually work on something that I didn't think was broken before they touched it....
