Broken down in Fresno

Yahoo Message Number: 101309
We started our 3 week trip from Sacramento and stopped for the night in Fresno.  When putting out the front passenger slide it went out 3 inches and stopped.  Hydraulic fluid poured out from the area just behind the tag axle.  It continued to pour out until we stopped trying to extend the slide.

We have a mobile repair coming tomorrow but it's doubtful that they can access the problem area without a lift.

So we started on plan  B, manually retracting the slide so we could limp home for repair.  The all screw seems to be missing.  We bought a 3/8 and 5/8 but neither fit.  Does anyone know the size of the  all screw and where one might find one?

Does anyone know the likely problem causing fluid to spew?

Thanks everyone

Hi Darrell,

I remember a problem with the hydraulically operated slides. The lines were installed to close to a heat source in the engine compartment and they would fail like yours did. The lines need to be relocated when they are repaired to keep from having the problem again. Maybe someone that has been there can give you more info.

Jim, I've had the same problem. Replace all of the other smaller hoses at the same time, because these hoses are for gas not hot water. After you fix the problem, go to an authorized cummins dealer and have them change the ECM to default to idle not shut down of the engine.  It cost me $59, well worth it.  As you know when the engine shuts down you can't steer and aren't beable to lemp to a safer place to inspect or repair the problem. For some reason CC programed the ECM  to stop the engine if the oil pressure, engine water goes low. Good luck.

We are going to change out all 4 hoses. The shop needs to bring in the coolant, they don't stock it, and we need to know how many gallons to order.

If you have a Cat engine, the sync cylinder on the PS rear slide behind the tag gets hot and Fails as you describe Bob. 06 intrigue 12047
