Pressing off pto shaft

I have my PTO off and have a question about pressing off the shaft. The shaft and bearings are loose in the case. Could someone guide me pressing off the PTO spline and putting the new one in?

I was able to press the shaft off with two blocks of wood to support the shaft while I smacked the top of the shaft with an aluminum rod to protect the shaft. It came off quite easily.

Leon, have you also checked out the output shaft of the fan and power steering pump to see if it is worn as well? If you need one, call COUNTRY COACH.

I would be reluctant to use a hammer on your pto. You may be able to use a vice or small set of pullers. Its been a while since I have done a pto but there are usually shims on the end caps to set the preload on the bearings. You add or remove shims to set. Since your changing the shaft preload will need to be confirmed. Since the wet kit is a Chelsea upgrade I would think they could provide detailed instructions and bearing specs.

I would like to thank everyone for their input. I took the PTO to Cummings Northwest and they changed the spine for me for a very minimum charge. I had minimum wear on the spine( maybe 1/32"" and pump shaft, but I did have a small piece chip off the end of the pump shaft. So little wear I decided to leave the pump shaft alone. A special thanks to Ron for his help with this and many other issues. I'll try to remember to take a picture of my pump shaft before I reassemble everything.

Three shims(gaskets) off and three new shims on. I measured the depth of the top output spline-to flange before I disassembled the PTO, It was 19/32" below the flange and I made sure it was the same after reassembly. I bought a dial indicator, but I found that small of an end play was hard to measure. the spine had no end play movement visually, just like it was before I disassembled.

Make sure you have a restrictor installed on the oil delivery line from the transmission to the wet kit reservoir. It is Chelsea part # 379964. The oil pressure from the transmission to the PTO must be regulated otherwise it could blow a seal in the PTO.
