Bose replacement

Yahoo Message Number: 102346
My Bose 321 has gone south.  I removed the subwoofer and control head but left the wiring.  I intend to replace with a simple Blu-ray DVD.  I have run HDMI to the TV and plan to utilize the TV audio out to feed the existing Bose speakers since they are there. So, I need a small audio amp (available on ebay) but I don't know if there is anything special in the speakers to prevent them working with an audio amp output.  Ideas? Lyle Wetherholt

Are there just two conductors running to each speaker or ware there more?  If two only just hook them up, if more you should see whats inside each speaker baffle and if there is more than a tweeter and woofer in each box I would guess the other speaker is an effects driver requiring additional wiring.  Rotts  of ruck!  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731.  I thru mine away the first weak when the coach was new and installed a 5.1 system!

If I remember the bose 321 is a 5.1 surround sound system. Usually a tv has only a stereo out meaning two speakers and not a surround 5.1 arrangement.
Since you mentioned the wiring is intact it would seem to be less trouble buying a new surround sound system and just connecting the wires.
The HDMI carries the video and audio signals. I am not familiar with your coach but my magna our inspire did not have stereo audio out wired from the tv, you would have to run this wire.
My thoughts.

Lyle,

Which amp are you looking at and which output on the TV will you use.

Thanks

Richard, I don't have a particular amp in mind at this time.  I am only looking at using the TV's audio line out.  (Surround sound is not a requirement.) Then plugging the amp output to the two remaining Bose speakers.  For Tom: Once you cut the multi pin speaker plug off and strip the remaining wires you find four wires going to each speaker.  I suspect this may have something to do with the bass feedback to the subwoofer.  Don't know.  Until I can put an amplified audio on the two of the four wires I won't know how they work.
This plan won't do much for creating great sound quality but since the two Bose speakers are there I thought I would use them.  Surround sound in ~320 Sq. Ft. doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Make sure to match the output from the amp with the speakers 8ohm vs 10ohm would cause problems

We just replaced our tv and added a sound bar.  It has a wireless subwoofer.  The sound bar is mounted under the tv and has the option of using any of the sound outputs from the tv.  We do not have to use the surround sound system that came with the coach.  Maybe this could be an option for you.
