We've had lots of 'fun' with our DEZL 560RV (Know it's DEZL, and think it's a 560 model. The 7" unit came out within a few week of my wife buying this as a Christmas gift for me.
We only switch it to RV mode, when we feel we're traveling in an area of risk for height or weight restricted roadways. Auto seems to give us better routing results then RV mode does.
It has been wrong often enough, that we cross now always:
1) Trip plan with MS Street & Trips
2) Put locations into the Garmin, under auto, for where we're headed that day of travel.
3) Cross reference the Garmin routing with the MS S&T, plus my wife then turns on her iPhone ATT with 'turn by turn' routing.
And, we always check the printed atlas against the planned routes, as well as the Mountain Directory book too.
Our DEZL has been wrong, plain down wrong and way off, enough times that we do those above sanity checks. It has also got us where we wanted to go a few times, but for sure not the most efficient way.
I do like the way the Garmin assists in what lane to be in while driving. It has done a good job on that, and only one time had me in the wrong lane - which was easy to see and correct before any damage.
Our previous Garmin C540, still in the coach as a back up, did a better routing job then the DEZL. Just not as good of display.
I would still by another Garmin today, probably the one mentioned by Don. May just need to accidentally 'drop' the DEZL a few too many times...
And sure not knocking the McNally, or other units. I think it's one of those things where the first one you buy, is the brand you stick with the most often:)!
Good luck Stan!!!
