How to check Radiator Fan Controller sensor inputs

On a 2007 CC Intrigue, the engine Hyd fan speed is controlled by an electronic controller made by Sauer Danfoss. There are several sensor inputs into this controller unit (this unit is NOT attached to the engine ECM) 1. Coolant Temp, 2. Charged air temp, 3. Air conditioning pressure? Does anyone know how to check if the AC sensor is working properly, and where it actually is? If any sensor is bad, or the controller is bad, the until will default to a full fast fan RPM condition.

Just an FYI, a 2007 Country Coach has an electronically controlled engine and the fan controller (part #1090385) IS controlled by the ECM. If you have Silverleaf in your coach you will be seeing the same thing the ECM is seeing. The only way I know of to check everything is to connect to the Cummins software through a computer. This will tell you if the dash AC is calling for the fan to run. I don't know for sure where the sensor is but I believe mine is on the drier and is located under the coach inside of the steps. Yours could be anywhere I suppose.

Are you having a problem with the fan running on high all or most of the time? If so first pull the 3 wire connector apart at the controller and make sure there is no corrosion. Before reinstalling the connector put some electronic grease, I use silicone grease, inside. This may solve the problem.

Had my controller replaced a couple of weeks ago. The electrical side (1090384) goes bad and the hydraulic side is still usable. Unfortunately this is not an unusual problem.

The trinary switch should be located on the receiver drier. I don't remember how to test it.

Thanks for the info but you are not correct about the controller. The part number is 1091243, and now there is a new just out model with a data link for testing. That model is 11163037. Looks the same except it has an extra cable.

Yes, the fan does run on high all the time. SD gave me a new controller but that did not help, so now checking all the individual sensors. I suspect the AC but it also could be the charged air sensor, which is hard to get to. I changed the water temp sensor today. I have also checked the control coil solenoid.

I apologize as it appears you have a different system than most 2007 CC's. I wish you luck in finding your problem.

One other thought. When I was having my controller checked prior to replacement the mechanic checked the hydraulic fan motor as he said in very rare cases something inside the motor can fail and it will run continuously. To check it he removed the two hydraulic lines from the controller and tied them together. When he started the engine the fan was stationary. Didn't move at all. He said that meant the parts inside the fan motor were OK.

If I could ask a few questions for my own piece of mind?

Do you have a Cat or Cummins?

Is there 3 or 6 wires in the harness to the controller? Do you know the part number of the original controller?

I tested all the hardware downstream from the controller by directly attaching the coil/solenoid to a DC source. This was done by making up a pigtail wire that went from the coach's DC electrical source (to the controller) directly to the solenoid, thereby bypassing the controller. When power was applied, the fan went to idle, when power was removed, the fan went to full speed. This is how it should be.

I think the 2008 CAT engines changed to an engine ECM type input for the fan controller but not sure.
