How old until you replaced... Informal info sharing survey...

Yahoo Message Number: 103035
Coach year and model
Item replaced and age

For us:

2004 Allure High Cascade 40' Tag ISL370 >Norcold 1200 - 8 yrs

Rear OTR Heater pump - Bypassed 9 yrs >Exhaust Manifold - 10 yrs

Onan QD8000 Temp Sensor - age 5

Onan QD8000 Radiator/Thermostat/Temp Sensor - age 6 (Poor maint previous owner.) >Front Heat Register - 8 years
Front Ride Height Valve - 6 yrs

AC Shrouds - 7 yrs (Preventative, they were cracked and going.) >Multi Disc CD - Abandoned 7 yrs
Smart Tire System - Abandoned 6 yrs >Rubber fuel lines to Generator/HyrdoHot - 5 yrs (Preventative due to ULSD causing ruptures.)

I'll stop here, a few other normal age related items, air drier cartridge comes to mind. I also do not have a PTO or a suspect radiator to worry about, which I think would be good info to share on failure age, if any. Same with older ISC/ISL's with the ULSD impacted Lift Pumps. And probably a host of others that I can't think of.

My thinking is by info sharing, it could help others with their coaches on things to watch, and budget for. If enough responses to warrant it, I'll crank the info into a spread sheet and save it out in the files.

Best to all,

Smitty

I've done everything you have or will shortly with the TV's, but had the Norcold updated and it works great.  I have replaced the front air and will replace the rear air this spring.  And I will have my Alternator repaired or replaced.    Plus I got tired of the Sauer Danfoss fan controller and went with the Scientific systems wax valve.  Chris Snyder resealed all the openings, vents , shower sky light for me this summer on the roof.  And Les Schwab replaced the Smart tire transmitters this year when I had the tires rotated.  I need to replace some more solenoids for the bay doors, and replace a striker on one slide tray.    The  air system had new filters installed and pump serviced.    Driver windows were removed and resealed along with the entry door 2 years ago.  Front windshields replaced, last year, too.    Had the X slide pivots lubricated and solenoids replaced. The drop down slide  roller bearings replaced on the DS.    Had an oxidized AC power connection under the bath room sink that kept tripping the ground fault interrupter circuit breaker on the DS, that I had to trace my self.  One of my Direct TV receivers quit, and will have to be replaced.    But knock on wood  in the 18 years Ive owned CC RV's only Toyo tires prevented me from making one trip, in 2000.  Last year the coolant line from the transmission to the radiator sprung a leak and had to be replaced.      TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731, 42 ft Ovation.

Both TV's last year, 2014.  Samsung 40" up front, Visio 39" in bedroom.
Inverter in 2013.

Since we don't full time, I am hoping to get a few more years out of the AC's.

Did replace Aqua Hot burner with rebuilt unit since I was having bearing noise in mine.

On my list for next spring:

fuel lines to generator and Aqua Hot (assuming I can reach them.... if not, might wait until we get to Oregon again and let one of those shops do it).  Since my coach is a 2007 and USLD was in full swing, any idea if CC used the right fuel lines??

Gary - I would have no concerns with fuel lines in a 2007 coach. Inventory turnover is pretty quick on bulk items like spools of fuel lines. As I understand it, the problem was found buy early 2005, and materials were adjusted at that time by the manufacturers. (Second hand info, from now over 5 years ago, for full disclosure:)!)

I would feel comfortable in a 2007 coach in regards to fuel lines.

Hi Jose,

I noted in your document, the comment about the new A/C's being more noisy. What did you replace, and with what units?

I am considering replacing both of the Penguin heat pumps on our '01 Intrigue, #11238 because of their age and operating hours with new Penguins. I have heard them run and thought they sounded quieter than our current models. Did I not hear correctly?

Don,

The originals were replaced with Penguin model 651815, and in my opinion they are much louder than the original Penguins model 630515.  Maybe, its just my aging ears but guests have asked me to turn them off when trying to have a conversation.  I've even set them at low fan speeds but to no avail, they are just too darned loud at any speed and at any setting, Heat Pump or AC. I believe that this model has a higher rated fan motor than the originals causing the annoyingly loud operation.

Thomas,

I've heard mention that since my sauer-danfoss fan controller is failing, I may want to consider a wax controller. Where did you get the Scientific Systems wax controller? Does it work well? And is it a job an owner can do or should I have a Cat shop do it?

Thanks,

I heard about it the first time from the Manager of Cummins North west in Coburg Oregon while purchasing antifreeze for my coach in 2008, and Larry Sherwood at CC during a Home Coming rally.    Others told me that was old technology that can have issues, too.  So I was reluctant.  Then a fellow 2004 CC owner Lyle Weatherholt  whom I have learned to trust installed the unit and was very happy.  So after experiencing yet another failure and having Chris Snyder replace it under warranty by OMC, I decided the next time there was a failure I would seriously consider a change.  Well less than 9 months later the Sauer Dan foss started acting up again.  And when I had to unplug it to keep from burning up the motor again  I finally made the decision to make a change.  I've known Eric Olstrum At Premiere Service center for years, so when he became an authorized dealer in Tucson I had him change the unit.  Its taken me almost two years to feel comfortable with the unit. My normal operating temps now 182 or 4 not the 195 that the ISL was designed for and the Max temp I have ever seen is 195 degrees, not 210 as before when the Sauer Danfoss worked.  You would think with the fan working that much harder the fuel milage would drop, but it hasn't.  Its increased.  The transmission runs cooler, too because of the shared radiator.  Now the engine is supposed to be dirtier operating at cooler temps, but I can not see any signs of such.    TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731
