Need help Oil on my Silver Leaf and on Dash indicate low oil pressur

Yahoo Message Number: 103153
We are currently in Quebec City traveling from San Diego Ca.

Both the Silver Leaf and the Dash Flash low oil pressure-----

The Oil Pressure Gauge on the dash indicates 20 when hot----

Everything reads normal--

Could it just be a bad sensor  ----

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated !!!!

My coach would be the numbers you are showing. I didn't have Silverleaf.

I had a sensor go bad on my Dodge Cummins, both the gauge read low and the idiot light would glow at idle when the engine was warmed.  Both got their readings from the same sensor, No real redundancy in that system. I replaced the sensor and all looked good again. So I would say you could possibly have a bad sensor.

Good luck

Jack,

Ate you saying it is ok to drive as long as the oil pressue gauge is between 25 and about 35

Stan,

On the road after the coach warmed up and driving I never had more than 35 maybe 37 on my gauge. It would rise under deceleration for revving up in lower gear. At idle it would be around the 20 mark. Start up it ran higher until warm.
I would check with Cat to see if there is any problem with these pressure.

Coach still for sale. Bought house settling down.

Stan,

I have an Cummins ISL 400 and my oil pressure runs around 54 psi when hot and on the road (per Silverleaf). If 25 psi is correct I would think it would be too low and needs attention. Apparently your gauges think so also. Probably just the sensor and should be an easy fix but it could be a stuck pressure regulator also. Oil pumps are very reliable and I would be surprised if it were that.

When I first got my 2004 coach I called Silverleaf and complained the readout only showed 55 psi all the time while the analog gauge ran from 90 at a cold start to 10 at a hot coast to a stop off the interstate. SL said the location they retrieved the signal from only showed good or bad (55 or 0). So I talked to Cummins on the 400 ISL and was told I was running in the right areas and that the 400 ISL would flash low pressure at 5 psi and shut down automatically. Heading down the highway my 400 ISL runs between 35 and 45 PSI. So, It sounds like everything is OK for you but don't take our word for it - check it out. Being wrong could cost a lot of dollars.

I had an issue with the accumulator section of the injection pump allowing diesel fuel to pollute the lubricating engine oil, thinning it out dropping the over all pressure.  Your engine brake won't work well and you have a real chance of damaging the engine.  You don't say whether you have a Cat or Cummins, but I would have the engine checked out thoroughly and a chemistry check of the oil. Cummins used a chemical dye to trace where the issue was after they had Freightliner do a chemical analysis and found out my 0il was 15% diesel.  If your oil level is rising on the dipstick you know you have a problem!    TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

TO continue, my ISL 400 has over 60 lbs of pressure when cold, gradually lowering to 40 lbs at 1600 rpm.  When I.m pushing the engine hard and have the temp pushing 195 degrees the pressure will drop to the low 30's.  Idle can be around 15 lbs,  but Cummins said it can drop below 10 and still be safe when the engine is very hot.    I find the oil pressure is 5 to 10 lbs higher with Valvoline than  Pennzoil or Shell Rotella all with a 15-40 rating.  Under normal driving conditions I have the idle set a 550 rpm, but when hot I set it at 650 to keep the pressure up.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731
