Fan Controller on Full Time High

On a recent trip my coach went into safety mode for overheating while climbing out of Durango.  I took my 2005 Allure '40 w/tag, 400hp CAT, to a nearby CAT dealer and they diagnosed it as the fan speed controller.  This is the second time in 5 years that this has gone out.  For a fast fix they reprogrammed my ECM to run the fan on full-time high speed so I could catch up to the other 5 coaches in our group and finish the trip.
Upon arriving home, I took it to my local CAT dealer for repair.  They recommended that we leave the ECM programed to run full-time high because the temp sensor on the speed controller only senses engine temp and not transmission temp.  They said that this can allow the transmission to overheat and has caused transmission failures.  So we're currently running full time high, which is not a major problem here in the south West.
Has anyone else heard of this or have any knowledge?

My first thought is that you will waste fuel and power and the engine will not run at is designed temperature.

Have you tried to clean the connectors back at the controller? Also, to get the fan to run on high you simply disconnect the plug at the controller.

Bogus advice from your Cat dealer.  It's always a challenge to find qualified tech support.

We assume you dropped gears in order to keep your rpm's at or near 1500 ?

The Cummins, Dawg, dealer in Cohburg, Oregon recommended the wax valve to me back in 2010 when I had the last Sauer Dan foss controller replaced and then replaced again 4 months later under warranty.  After having had the valve for two years I can say my, milage has increased over .5 mpg and the coach runs about 7 degrees cooler.  So my ISL is happy and so am I.  I don't know any Cat owners with the valve, but those of us with ISL's seem to be very happy.  Good luck.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731 ISL 400

You can also just pull the fuse in the Steering Bay.  It's much easier.

I had the wax valve installed in Tucson in February on a C-9 CAT.  Running cooler and no problems. I had a CAT dealer reprogram the engine from variable speed to 12 volt off/on to get me home, but they said no to run it that way as it is hard on the fan drive and will have other problems.
