Park brake light and alarm

Yahoo Message Number: 103993
My parking brake light/buzzer will not (sometime will, sometime want) go off whenever I release the pushbutton. The parking brakes apply and release good but the light/alarm are intermittent. I've had success apply/releasing park brakes several times and clear the light/alarm, but not every time.
On our last return trip the alarm would not clear for awhile and I used the radio to drown out the alarm. After some time (30-60 minutes) wife noticed the light/alarm had stopped, but when I applied the park brake again, the light/alarm problem was back. Applied brake again and all seemed ok, but once we got home and tried again/problem back.

I'm thinking one or both my brake light switches are going out or: Maybe there is a dedicated switch for the parking brake/alarm.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Roy.

My 1998 Intrigue has three brake switches for front, parking, and rear (in that order from left to right as you look at them), with each one corresponding to its own dash warning light/buzzer.  The switches are located in the front drivers side basement/storage compartment.  They look similar to this (Kevin Waite can get you the exact correct ones if needed): http://www.everythingtruckparts.com/bendix-279416n-l-p-switch/

The one wire on each switch can be disconnected (simulating the switch is "open" as it should be when air pressure is good) or jumpered to ground (simulating the switch is "closed" as it should be when there is low air pressure or the parking brake knob pulled up).
If you have a HWH leveling system another thing you will see when the parking switch is bad is that the HWH won;t level because it thinks the parking knob is not engaged.  If this happens then jump the wire on the center switch to ground when you are ready to level (I had to do this when mine went bad at a campground last year).

Good Luck!

Thank you Mark and you were right.

I had replaced all three switches, about 3 years ago, due to the slide-out not working without a jumper to the switch terminal.

I just removed all three, disassembled, cleaned and lubed the O-rings and all is OK now. One of them had crud around the contacts and I'm thinking it was the one giving me trouble.

Thanks again,
