Need some help

Yahoo Message Number: 110686
and some info... getting ready for a trip and just took the coach out of storage. Had it plugged into a regular wall plug and about 15 mins later one of my house batteries blew apart. of course it happened right at dusk so by the time I got it cleaned up, it is dark.

I do not have any power to coach via the other house battery, so we are waiting for the sun to come up to look. I can start the coach and move it if necessary.

Looking for some suggestions on where to start looking for this problem and if I can not get it working, would it be safe to drive to a repair shop? as this town I'm in now does not have any qualified RV type repair person.
Thanks,
Dave

Dave, if these are the original batteries, you have gone way past the normal lifetime. The original batteries on my 07 Intrigue faded fast in 05, in the evening of course. One got real hot so I disconnected it, then I was overloading the remaining one. We were dry camping so I put on the generator and left it on. That calmed things down. The next day we made it home just fine - I had shore power then. I found replacements the next day, did the swap and all problems disappeared.

Lee,

I replaced this battery in late 2012.
Just getting ready to look in the day light to see if any thing looks oblivious. Regarding the inverter, I did not see any green light on when I looked at it in the dark with a flashlight. besides the on/off switch and reset button on the front is there any other button to push/pull button on it I need to operate? Could that large fuse on the wall behind the inverter shorted when what happened - happened? Thanks

My experience with those large fuses (both to inverters and Battery Boost solenoid) has been when the battery voltage goes "way down", the current, of course, increases and it may likely blow the fuse. I just replaced a 400 amp fuse to my battery boost solenoid that was caused when my house batteries went dead. This blown fuse was not allowing my house batteries to charge from the alternator. However, the fuse to the inverter was ok. You should check those big fuses with a volt meter, see if they are flowing current. They run about $60 at a good electrical supply store. I carry a spare now.

If you have 6 volt batteries you need 2 in series to make 12 volts. 1 missing no power.

Greg, Thanks going to do that next.
I think I found what my be my problem. when removing the damaged battery, I removed the ground wire between the two as it was grounding it self when it touched any metal. So now the other house battery is not grounded to the coach. So it appears that I need to get that other battery in to see if any thing else was damaged when it went.

UPDATE

that was the temporary problem. Disconnected ground cable on the other house battery. once I connected the battery cables the system seemed to work. will know more once I can put a bolt to connect them together.

Thanks to all for your input. Wish I understood this system better.
