oil change

What brand of oil is everyone using? What do you think about synthetic? I just found a major oil leak on the drivers side of the motor. Does anyone have the name of a facility in Southern California, around Temecula, that does good warranty work?

By all means take it to a Cummins or CAT shop, whichever is in your rig. I've had good service with both Cummins and CAT. jerry in NM, '00 Magna.

There's a Cummin's in the Temecula area I've heard that's good.
Also, a Cummins with "Coach Care" in El Cajon, CA (about 1 1/2 hours south of Temecula). Sorry, I don't have the info on the Cummin's in T...might do a 'net check.

The big truck shop (coach care) in El Cajon is north of Temecula. They recently replaced the 2 rear ride height valves for me- good place.
regarding the "oil leak on drivers side"- check the fluid, it could be fuel leaking from the primer pump

I use Chevron...readily available at any truck stop or even at Wally World. I used Shell Rotella-T at first...but noticed some low oil pressure and had it changed....found out later it was a faulty OP sending unit. But since either are very good deisel oils..I just decided that one switch is enough.
I never could understand the sudden RAGE to move into synthetic motor oils. Certainly there are locations where its a MUST DO ( especially in the frozen north) But the engine is going to run about 4 times longer than most people will even be alive ( for an RV use)...AND...you CANNOT extend your oil change times / miles...I just cant see the added cost for..??...(reason??)

Changed to transynd at 5,000, told to replace filters only at 75,000 or 36 months. Have a fluid analysis at that time. Replace as recommended by Allison at filter change/analysis.
Cost to drain, flush cooler, reset and road check (2&1/2 hours) $413.71 at factory in Washington state on 2/01/02. Cost was the same for either regular oil or transynd. They also checked and filled differential. Had to tighten loose bolts.

Hi A word of advice when using a truck oil change garage is that some greese fittings do not need greesed or only need a little greese be careful.
