Steering gearbox leaking

Have a small leak from steering gear box is this a serious fix, can the gear box be repaired or does it require replacement?

Not sure at this time noticed a small amount of oil under coach below the gear box will have to get under and see where the oil is coming from

If it is a gasket leak, clean it up well with brake cleaner then apply RTV Grey. That stops oil leaks from the outside great. Sprint cars racers use it all the time, like on the front timing chain cover of a 700 HP V8 under great stress. It may not be a permanent solution, but it will last quite a long time.

I started out at country coach with them telling me it was damp and it should be replaced or resealed. They cleaned it off and by the time we made it to Northern California it left a few drops......... By the time I got to houston Texas it was leaving a trail. I found a local shop that rebuilds them and made plans to have a local on site service remove it so I could take it to them to get resealed. When the road mechanic arrived he said it was just one small seal leak and he could replace it even though I insisted he remove it so I could get the whole thing resealed. I finally gave in and about six hours and 200.00 later he said I was good to go. Fast forward to a weeks and 1100 miles later it started dripping again I decided I could make it from Dallas to Florida to get it fixed there. By the time I got to florida It was coming out as fast as I could get it poured in. I had a local shop send it off to be rebuilt and two weeks and 1800.00 it's not leaking now............... In my experience I would just recommend getting it rebuilt or replaced if you can find a place who has rebuilt units in stock

Looks like it is coming from gasket on bottom of gear box but not 100% sure it could be from seal on top the whole box is covered with oily grim may need to clean it and see if I can tell for sure

Put out gen slide removed access panel it looks like the leak is coming from the gasket on the side of gear box there is some oil on bottom gasket but that may be from the side the top seal is dry

Honestly I think the RTV Grey would fix that. Get it really clean and apply liberal bead.

Checked bolts they seem to be tight but the whole thing turns when you are tightening so not sure they are as tight as they should be. The leak is from the side looks to be a seal not sure if the seal can be replaced without removing the gearbox not an easy place to work.

Does anyone know who made the gearboxes for country coach magna? I have not been able to make out the manufacturer has some markings but not very clear.

There should be three bolts, maybe 4 that hold the side plate on. There may be a play adjustment screw in the middle with a lock nut. Do not adjust the center one. I do not understand what you are trying to say with the whole thing turns?

The gearbox is made by r h Sheppard in Hannover PA it is m110 for any one that may need info there help Dept is very helpful. Seal needs to be replaced not urgent can be done by any good truck shop
