Another Running Hot / Fan? Thread. H.E.L.P.

Hi all,

Let me start at with I have a 2003 40ft Allure Tag 370 ILS cummin. I had almost the same problem last year, I think it could be the fan.

I was heading up to the North Carolina Mountains, it was like 95 to 98 degree day. As per last years discussion on this group, I did not have the motor AC on, (ran generator) I manually shift down the alison to like to 3rd gear as I tried to keep the rpm around 2 to 2500 heading up the 321 big grade hill in NC. at about 35 mph Just about to the top, red light come on 210 heat is at. I pull over and let ideal for a few, (not much change) since I was almost at the top I went for it.
Once at the top, small down grade and shifted back up. With in 5 to 10 minutes temp went right back down to like 180.
What to do? I want to take my coach across country, but am afraid of high hills.
There is a cummins service center in charlotte. They wanted a ton of money to check it out, and told me up front that they do not work on side mounted radiator, as it is not a cummins product.
Anyone have any ideas?

I've rigged up a switch to turn the engine cooling fan full on for the big hills. Also, as wierd as it sounds, I run the heater as a back up radiator. Another problem I had was a cracked inter cooler for the turbo. If you have a cracked cooler the engine works harder and the engine overheats.

Too bad you stopped. I had an overheating problem last year. The warning light came on at 225 and I believe if it had gotten to 230 it would have shut down. With the  standard temp controller it goes to high fan at 205 and if you are still climbing it may get to 210 but no higher. When my controller failed once you get really hot it just kept climbing. I overheated on a relatively flat interstate at 90 degrees.  If you read the old posts you can find out how easy it is to unplug the controller if you do overheat. I would suggest finding the plug or easier yet the fuse to pull. Then when you get hot you can easily respond. When mine overheated by unplugging the controller the fan goes to high speed and cools off the engine very fast.

I found in my coat so are many things that attributed to the overheating problem I replace my intercooler my radiator my fan motor in my fan controller believe it or not I had a problem with all of them I can get up to about 210 degrees pulling a steep grade and pulling my car now. I run around 185 normally. I tried all the tricks you're talking about and you do get some help I would suggest you have your fan motor check for Speed to make sure it's operating properly at the right RPM on high. Also switch over to the mechanical fan controllers my 2007 Alero had a separate tranny cooler so I pulled out the transmission cooler from the radiator when I had it replaced however I believe you have a combination radiator tranny cooler best of luck it does get better when you work through one issue at a timeSent from Yahoo Mail on Android
