Lifeline AGM Batteries

Does anyone know of a good (means inexpensive) source to purchase size 8D Lifeline AGM batteries, either retail or on the net. I have received quotes of $400 each, which seems a bit rich.

I purchased mine at Hunter's Battery Warehouse in Oklahoma City, OK. They were slightly under $350.00 if I remember correctly. At the time, this was the best price I could find and I had looked a lot. The owner of Hunter's is Jim Hunter and the telephone number is (405) 631-5561. OK, we are all driving coaches that cost many more times than our other vehicles, unless you happen to be a collector of expensive automobiles. Why the big cry about paying $400 for a battery that has a warranty that is twice as good as any other 8D battery may have and will last twice as long. $200 twice for the 8D once $400 for the lifeline which will last longer than the other 8D. In my old coach , I replaced my 8D house batteries about every two years and now in the Allure I replaced the 8D house batteries after two years and now have had the lifeline batteries for almost 4 years and they are still going strong . Have plenty of power for many hours of dry camping.
I would never go to any other batteries and when I buy my next coach it will have the lifeline batteries from day one.

Yes, Egon (cctravelingman), I agree, AGM's are the preferred way to go, but please be understanding if I don't want to pay top dollar for them. Flooded cell 8D's can be had for $120 to $150, so $400 seems a bit steep. Someone e- mailed me a source for Lifeline 8D AGM's for $300 at www.batteryweb.com. I also found sources at $525 - if your interested Egon, let me know - they would love your business!

All the specifications on the 8D Lifeline batteries seem to present them as if they are a cranking battery and not a true deep cycle.
Deep cycle batteries are rated differently and it is difficult to make comparisons. The best standard to use is to know the AmpHours load a battery will provide continously over a set period (usually 20 hours)of time or or the number of minutes at a specific and continuous load ( typically 75 Amp Hours). Also important is the number of cycles of discharge and charge to battery can withstand.

Even with all the advantages listed for AGM's, there is still a place for the standard flooded deep cycle battery. AGM's will cost 2 to 3 times as much as flooded batteries of the same capacity. In many installations, where the batteries are set in an area where you don't have to worry about fumes or leakage, a standard or industrial deep cycle is a better economic choice. AGM batteries main advantages are no maintenance, completely sealed against fumes, Hydrogen, or leakage, non-spilling even if they are broken, and can survive most freezes. Not everyone needs or desires these features. To each his own.

Thats what our mechanic said too. We went to the golf cart batteries before our trip to the keys (dry camping,)only had to run the generator when we wanted to. We bought the Interstate Workaholic 2200's (made by US Battery). Four fit very nicely in the place of the two 8d's were. They are supposed to be very comparable to the Trojan's. We paid about $50 ea.
