Wineguard Trav'ler Satellite Intall

Yahoo Message Number: 108114
Hi,

Has anyone installed a Winegaurd Trav'ler Satellite system. My question is how was the power cord run from the roof to access a 120V power plug? I'm having the system installed next week and I'm concerned about how they will run the power and what the best cleanest method might be. The coachable I know is pre run and available on the roof right in from of the forward heat pump. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Randy,

While we absolutely love the Winegard Trav'ler Satellite system, running the power cord did present a problem. (We did not realize that the Trac Star we had did not use a 120v power cord.) We have a 2008 Inspire, and our Trac-Star domed satellite was located directly above our light fixture in the living area. After much deliberation, we decided to drill a hole down through the wooden frame that formed the top of the light fixture (the light fixture is actually four fluorescent lights attached to a wooden frame) and drill a hole horizontally through the ceilng insulation to reach the entertainment center above the passenger seat. There is a power cord there that we are able to plug into. We then purchased a cable cord cover to camouflage the black power cord running through the top of the wooden frame of the light fixture.

A professional installer might be able to 'find a path' without drilling through the light fixture frame, but we were not able to do that. The wiring is bundled and there is no way to know which way it goes. The white cable cord adequately camouflages the black wire...you can see it if you look hard, but we are satisfied with the result.

I'm assuming you have an existing satellite dish that you are replacing and that the coaxial cable is already available to reuse. The installation of the Winegard Trav'ler was simple with the exception of running the power cord. That part of the installation took us a long time to figure out and then execute. Good luck. The satellite system is wonderful, and you should be happy with it.

We had no dish when we installed the Traveler. The tech drilled a whole through the roof into the entertainment center and ran the cables across the roof into the entertainment center. An appropriate cable entry cover and Dicor waterproofed the entrance. Our only issue is that there is still about 20ft of control cable coiled up in the entertainment center adding to the cable mess.

I just installed the Wineguard Trav'ler on my coach roof. I removed the old King dome and used the existing conduit to run the power forward to the ac outlets behind my Genie dvr in the right side overhead cabinet. Ran the coax cable through the same pvc pipe. Had to mount the the Trav'ler off the centerline so it wouldn't hit my Batwing antenna, but it works GREAT. Easy instalation to do it yourself.

Sats2Go in Houston TX replaced our TracStar. The new dish was mounted in the same place. He did go through the AC vent openings and drilled holes somewhere. Didn't pay much attention. Maybe your tech could call Dave at Sats2Go? We always go to Dave at Sats2Go for anything to do with satellite. He is the satellite "guru"

Dave's number is: 813-564-2828

If your tech calls Dave, tell him to remind Dave that he changed our TracStar in May to a Winegard. Our coach is a blue 2004 Country Coach Allure.

I called to ask some questions, but they are too busy and the wife wouldn't give me Dave's number. The number below doesn't work, so I grabbed the number from the website.
