Resources in Washington State?

Hi folks We have a 2005 Inspire Sienna and the reading I have done about the PTO wet kit is beginning to have an effect!

If I wanted to get this work done on my rig, can anyone recommend specific service techs to do the work in Washington state?

If going to Oregon is the best choice, I will certainly do that. I am planning a trip to Illinois in October and really don't want to experience a failure on the road!!

I have been using OMC since the first week they opened and trusted Dave Remington from the first time I visited the CC factory in 1999 to have my warranty issues fixed. He found the bad Monroe shocks the coach came with and a sticking exhaust brake diaphragm. Later he helped me with all sorts of issues on my previous coach and this one. He is one reason this coach is almost like new under neath the belt line. So my first choice would be OMC, Oregon Motor Coach near the Air Port in Eugene . I've known Bob Vinson for years, too and He could do the work for you at RCV, inc in Junction City. If you were in Arizona I would say Eric Olstrum at Premier Coach Service center could do the work in Tucson. I'm sure the gents at Premier Coach sales on Ist Street in Junction City could do the work, too. I wouldn't worry with TOM Carrier at Carrier and Sons service center either down the street from OMC. There's Kevin Waite, too. All near Junction City. Oregon. As you are in Washington, its a small drive to the home of CC> TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731. I'm sure there are others, but that's my list.

Hi Ellen,

You are making the right decision.  If it fails you will have to be towed in.  I found out the hard way.
It's not a complicated or expensive upgrade.  You couldn't go wrong by finding an Allison transmission dealer.  They should be able to help you.

I would wholly agree that Infinity Coach, in Sumner, WA, do an outstanding job and stand behind their work. Each time that I have needed their services as I travel from my home state of Alaska, enroute to Arizona, they have met any and all of my needs, 100%. I would not hesitate to use JIM and his crew, again.

What engine do you have in your Coach? I'm under the impression that the smaller engines rarely experienced the dreaded PTO failure, as long as it was regularly serviced (greased). Apparently the CC service bulletin was aimed at the larger Cat and Cummins engine rigs. Anybody have more on this?

Mine is an '08 Allure, Cat C9 that's had the PTO serviced every year since new, and no issues (yet)!

Hi Helen,

I have the same engine in my 2005 CC Inspire. I experienced a PTO failure at 36K miles. I would highly recommend you get a wet kit installed. If it fails while driving you loose power steering.

If you have extended warranty coverage there is a good chance its covered less deductible.

Your situation would be different than mine. I have the 425 HP C-9 with the Cat transmission. But as I said, the folks at Premier advised me that the PTO issue was largely related to the larger Cat and Cummins set-ups and that with proper maintenance those of us with the smaller engines shouldn't have a problem.

I guess it comes down to whether you want to spend over $1000 for "insurance". Personally, I'm going to ensure my PTO is pulled apart and greased every year...

Its a device driven off the engine referred as a Power Take Off to supply a mechanical connection to drive other systems mechanically, pumps etc. You don't have to worry coaches of our vintage have lubed PTO's. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

Thomas is correct, but it's worth noting that the PTO comes off the transmission, not the engine. As used by CC, they were "dry" meaning the drive shaft splines are not lubricated, but should be greased as part of normal service. Unfortunately, this is something easily missed, especially if the mechanic isn't familiar with this particular issue. The "wet kit" is a completely new PTO attached to the tranny, in which the drive runs in an oil bath. Basically no maintenance required, though I'm sure the oil needs changing periodically.

As I recall it is a conversion of the original PTO. It is re-plumbed to allow flow of tyranny fluid. Thus, you're using a "Wet Kit."

Of course when the unit is greased the gear wear can be evaluated. If it's significant you should be thinking about a wet kit.
