Honda Forever to Jeep Now

I need some advice. I have driven Hondas since 1976 when I bought my first little blue Accord and put 140,000 miles on it. Since then, I have owned just about every Honda made including towing the Element and my current CRV. New ones can no longer be towed. Getting a different tow is a daunting test of my Honda loyalty.

However, Jeep Cherokee appears to the the winner of my new loyalty pact. I know I need Active Drive II in order to tow but what model did you choose, why did you choose it and should I try to get a deal for a 2016 or wait for the 2017? Pros/Cons.

Help from all you Jeepers out there?

I replaced my Ford Escape with a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I love it easy to set up to tow. Just push a button it comes out of gear no steering lock. I bought a late model 2015 with collision avoidance and adaptive cruise 6 cylinder has plenty of power love it. I have no complaints .

Over the years I have owned and driven many Chrysler products and have been fairly happy, but the jeeps I have driven have all been a little unstable to me and why I have never considered one to purchase. I admit its been a few years since the last audition. I plan on keeping my CRV until we hang up RV traveling, unless some one can convince me otherwise. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731 and 2012 CR-v.

Have towed several Jeep Wranglers and our current Honda CRV and a Ford F-150 super crew. All pull well and are easy to set up. Jeep quality cannot compare to Honda's but if you need the 4WD off road capability the Jeeps are great . New Wranglers are getting very expensive ($45K for a well equipped Rubicon 4 door, don't know about Cherokees).

When I sold my Ford Escape, I went with a Ford Edge AWD, doesn't quite meet the true off road experience but can handle slippery conditions and it is a Great Drive! Easy tow setup but my towbar/base plate company, Demco, said they could not be installed on systems with adaptive cruise for some reason.

I tow a 2015 AEV converted Jeep Wrangler because I want the off road capability. Towing is easy, though not as easy as pushing a button.
Simple answer to your 2016/2017 question, unless there is some new 2017 feature that you can't live without look for a deal on the 2016. Then use the saved money to help purchase the Chrysler lifetime warranty (shop online for the best price, there is one dealer who was substantially lower than the asking price (over $1000). They are not as well made as a Honda.

We bought a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited to replace our 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Primarily we bought the Limited because of some of the features and the color we could get. The Cherokee Trailhawk model didn't have a color that went well with our coach and also had an ugly black decal on the hood. I don't believe we have had the gyrating problem that others have experienced with their Cherokee's so we have not added the towing accessory that Jeep now recommends. We have towed the Jeep about 15000 miles without issue. As someone who likes to take backcountry byways my only complaint with the Cherokee Limited is that the tire size due to the 18" wheels precludes any off-road type tires, i.e. Toyo Open Country or Goodrich All-Terrains and the touring tires take a beating on AZ and UT rocky ground.

I have owned several Honda cars. More than any other brand, 5 total. The quality between models differed very significantly on those 5. I have owned one Jeep. But I would guess that quality between models differs a lot between them too.

I owned a 2002 Accord and a 2004 S2000. The S2000 was made perfectly. The fit and finish were as good as any car I have ever owned and that includes three Mercedes. But the 2002 had many factory issues and the car was showing it's age in some very bad ways by 45,000 miles. Not minor issues big ones. Finally one of the head service techs told me the reason, on my 2002 it was the first year Honda started buying components from a certain country (who shall go unnamed.). Things from that country were of much lower quality than Japanese or USA made parts.

I mention this because you should look closely at the different Jeep models. They may have significant differences between them. I have only owned one Jeep. My 2013 Wrangler 4 door. It has had zero factory defects since new. I now have 36,000 road miles on it and about 20,000 tow miles. It was made in Toledo Ohio. I think it is the perfect tow car. It is extremely sturdy, holds lots of people and things, drives anywhere, after using it a lot it looks like new. Oh, and the tops come out. And it is an absolute hoot off road. Moab in particular. Hook up and take off take almost no time and are really easy. Plus the tow hitch height is higher than some cars and for aging backs that makes it easier to hook up. It has one failing. It's highway driving for long distances is only OK. My wife's Acura MDX is much better but we can't tow that.

Some Jeep models have parts made in a country known for high style fast cars but not sturdy really long lasting ones.

Shirley Hi. I bought my Jeep thrue the Costco Auto buying Program. Do your research and find the model of car you want . Then call Costco auto buying program. I looked for two years at the model I wanted and dealt with several dealers in my area. None of the dealers where willing to make a deal. Wanted way to much for their vehicle and would not deal on trade in. I went with Costco auto buying program and saved $10,000.00. This included setting Vehicle up for towing, including towed vehicle braking system.
